Neither Warrior nor Dragoon in FFXIV are designed around "draining" health, and Dark Knight in FFXIV doesn't increase its attack power by sacrificing defense, but rather gains power from getting hit in the face (which neither Warrior nor Dragoon do).

I was thinking about that before heading off to bed. They do seem unwilling to make new gear for that- see throwing RMD as Casting and SAM as Striking/Slaying, even though it might have made more sense for other things. It might be better to have Fending gear as body and the Casting Gear as accessories, though. Or do what they did in the patches before HW and throw a stat on the gear they want them to have; like how they threw the dexterity stat on Striking gear.Might be easier just to have them using Caster armor and Fending accessories. That way, they won't need to make another set of items on loot tables.
As for the armor, they technically wouldn't have to be in heavy armor either. Just give them a trait or something that would increase defenses to make them match those from current tanks and it should be fine. If health is under par compared to other tanks, then passive health boost and problem solved.
But they added the Scouting gear for NIN in Heavensward, so it's possible. This expansion saw a major battle overhaul so they might have overlooked that this time around.

5.0 --> Sharlayan --> Time Mage (healer or tank) --> 99,9% chance (because mentionned by Cyn in Hildibrand quest HW)
Ranger/Hunter for DPS.
One last for the remaining spot (Shogun tank or Dancer healer if we have access to Thavnair).
Then it would be severely lacking in health compared to the other way around since Casting accessories don't have Vitality on them.
As for the Scouting gear argument, it's possible, but the sole reason why Scouting gear exists is because of stylistic components (a.k.a. make them not look like bards) since the longer-standing implementation of Aiming gear makes Scouting gear statistically redundant. Yes, they could have "Warding" gear, but it would mostly be a glamour thing unless they were REALLY desperate to make it statistically unique to current Casting armor.
The other thing to factor in for another armor type is that it's one more armor type on the loot tables. Ever get annoyed when you down an awesome boss with great loot that no one can use because no one there's playing a job that the loot's for? Yeah, Warding gear would just expand that issue.

You make a good point. Then it would be severely lacking in health compared to the other way around since Casting accessories don't have Vitality on them.

I was thinking of the style of casters and tanks; that even though they're magic based, their job would be defense so armor might suit them more. But perhaps the issue can be solved even more simply; have their weapons a substantial amount of VIT attached to it. And have them share shields with PLD even, except for Relic/Zodiac/Anima and the like.

I don't have any actual job ideas but Square needs to skip adding a DPS next time they add a job or two. We need tanks really bad. If they add one job, it needs to be tank. If they add two jobs, it could be tank and healer. I kind of hope they throw in a tank some time in the middle of this expansion even though it's unlikely.
As to what tank to add? I just want it to be unique and original as far as lore is concerned. Maybe a spell themed tank. The gameplay would still be melee combat based but the lore could be blue mage or even a mimic like Gogo. Do something weird. Have fun with it. The less it is like a standard plate themed job like paladin, warrior, or dark knight, the more people will be interested in it.

Tank and Healer are going to be the next jobs added to the game. Adding MORE DPS without Evolving current systems to help alleviate the problem would be almost assinine lol But it won't change the fact that DPS will rule this game (so maybe 5/6/8 Man dungeons SE with the same 3 bosses??) So with that, (The Melee Mage) Blue Mage (BLU) Tank (maybe Dual Swords??) And Dancer (DNC) Healer (Now that Cleric stance isn't a thing, Dual Dagger DPS Healer) would be perfect.. I know some people want berserker but thats basically WAR is lol Beastmaster (Single or Dual Hand axes) would be more of a DPS and being able to call forth tamed beast or even dungeon enemies to fight for you would be cool. I would still like to see Corsair (COR), an Epic pirate adventure would be awesome with SO MANY PIRATES IN THE GAME. weapon type.. not sure, most likely guns, maybe muskets for range with a mix of Melee (working out for RDM, don't see why not at this point lol)

I would love for Geomancer. With the hints in the Astrologian questline, it seems heavily implied that we'll see it again, hopefully playable. Further research into this, in combat the NPC uses "Qi of Earth" which does earth damage, "Qi of Air" which does air damage, but NOT a dot like WHMs. Finally he can do a spell called "Qi of Water" which is a healing spell and not a knockback.
I think they could add unique traits in that the environment can improve your spell damage etc. Near water? Heals or if they turn it into an offensive spell. It's improved. Out in open land? Earth damage is increased. In a metal garlaen compound with no water or earth? There is always air.
Or how about something more reasonable for a more balanced MMORPG, like spells that create specific localized environmental effects (i.e. soil, metal, air, etc.) and and spells that have effects based off of what environmental effect is in place?I think they could add unique traits in that the environment can improve your spell damage etc. Near water? Heals or if they turn it into an offensive spell. It's improved. Out in open land? Earth damage is increased. In a metal garlaen compound with no water or earth? There is always air.
