Only easy way to make a tank "summon" that would neither be underpowered or overpowered due to the difference in AoE and single-target damage is to make the summon work as Aeons do in Final Fantasy X. They replace the party instead of being added to it in that game, and here they could replace the summoner alone. Basically, summoner would just get a toolkit based on the summon with a new look. This is far from what people want for a "pet" job though, but at the very least it's doable and simple...

An alternative that would be pretty difficult is make unsummoning/changing pet impossible in-fight. Then have the pet possess normal HP while the summoner does not have any. The summoner would die if the pet dies however. This however involves all the difficulties of a pet class in this game (worthless AI, unresponsiveness etc.), for a pet that could not get normal pets immunities/resistances (mitigated AoE damage, resistance to certain debuffs etc.). Basically...this isn't going to happen.

I do think that a gunblade-wielding job is a very real possibility; one that is fast approaching. If memory serves, when the subject of a gunblade job came up years ago, the response alluded to the chance of something like being more likely when we reach Garlemald. At this point in the story we are essentially at the Empire's doorstep and I have a hard time imagining them stopping the momentum, but the likelihood of pressing forward will become more apparent with subsequent patches that develop the story.

The interesting thing about a gunblade job is that, unlikely nearly every other request, it isn't based on a classic identity, but rather an iconic weapon. SE has voiced an interest in presenting jobs where they are allowed more creative freedom. In the case of a gunblade job, they can take it in whatever direction they want.

With that said, in my eyes I can easily envision a gunblade job as a tank. My justification is that, since the gunblade has been established as specialized imperial weapon, what else is there related to the Empire that can be considered iconic? How about their heavily armored high-ranking officers? If not actual imperial armor, I can at least imagine our gunblade job being donned in an imperial-esque armor style. Also, I would like to note that, rather than being trained by an Eorzean citizen who happened to pick up a gunblade and figured out how to use it, I personally love the idea of having the Warrior of Light trained by a former imperial officer who has ceased to follow the rule of the emperor.

As a lore-related side note, although the Eorzean Alliance has expanded, the Empire is still very powerful. I have a hard time imagining them being defeated through brute force. Perhaps a future plot point will revolve around trying to persuade imperial citizens to rally against their emperor, potentially escalating into a civil war. The gunblade trainer mentioned above could be connected with such a movement.

I think I have idle favor to job classes I'd like to see (like dancer) but the things I would more like to see are...
    - New blunt damage user
    - Unconventional weapon types (whips, chakrams, hammers, really any non-rigid weapon etc)
    - More reactive gameplay style
    - A combat healer
    - a new pet user.

guess that kinda limits my choices to like... Dancer, Puppetmaster and Beastmaster.... but you get the point XD

I suspect next expansion will not have dps classes. This in turn leads me to believe that Geomancer (thx to ast quest) will be healer. As for tank, it'll either be blue mage, sage or a completely new job with zero ties to the FF series.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

I feel like no one has mentioned this yet...

Based on the lore and where we are potentially going in the next expansion (Garlemald?)
What about seeing the Hammer class as the next class? Nero finally got his working again and we already have seen a bunch of other characters with it. Makes sense that it would be a tank class as well. Just a thought.

I'm hoping for Dancer as a healer that does damage similar to a WOW shadow priest.
Plus I love the idea of slaying enemies and healing allies with my hips. <3
