Those dragons are friends with the moogles, whom they've been friends with for those 1.000 years of us killing and fighting them. The war began with a bunch of elezen killing a dragon and since then dragoons have made it their agenda to kill dragons - and now you expect a folk of creatures with memories that exceed our lifespan to just forget about all that and give us their kids as companions...? If you remember the sidequests in the forelands those little dragons cant even HUNT for themself, because they're children - its one thing to work together with the dragons within their homelands, its another thing to take a dragon-baby onto an adventure into the Far East... The war might be over, but the wounds are far from healed. You appear very shortsighted to me, both in lore and gameplay perspective. Introducing a dragon-pet would be mean that the dragoon itself would experience heavy nerfs and a potential rework.

While it would certainly be cool to be able to use all of our mounts (including a wyvern) as companions like the chocobo, that doesnt has to be dragoon-exclusive. And bringing a large pet like the wyvern into dungeons seems not very practical - seeing how small the SMN-egis are...

Its okay that you're missing your pet - but its also okay that this is a different game from FFXI and that the dragoon-job obviously works very differently from the one you were used to.
