As several have said and it has pretty much gone ignored the PS3 players aren't the only ones affected by this. Those running older PC configurations that are even newer than the PS3 are getting left behind as well. The min specs for Stormblood are greater than what my older PC can handle, which is far newer than the PS3. Granted I upgraded last year as it was getting old, but as you all have pointed out upgrading your PC is actually FAR more expensive than just simply buying a PS4. So in reality the PS3 players actually have a bit of an easier time than those getting locked out because their PC is too old, and yet newer than the PS3.

I've been under the impression that those system updates are because older parts aren't avaliable anymore, but if they are for real, I have to wonder what the heck are they thinking as graphics is the last problem this game has.

Now I do own a PS4 but I do have a general preference for playing MMO's on a computer, but even I now know that come Stormblood this PC will probably tank even more so its time to step up and upgrade!. Like at peak times, it struggles to handle the likes of Idyl (can take 30+ seconds to load in) and the now forever potd hub Quarrymill and S Rank NMs...hahahaha....oh man I keep thinking my computer will explode. Thankfully I'm hoping to have a new PC by the end of May, one that might actually last 8+ years instead of 5 :c

It is a shame for PS3 players who it was their only option to play, due to their own circumstances, but the whole support drop was ultimately inevitable given the consoles age, hopefully those more effected find a way through.

As I stated earlier in the thread the min on the graphics part is being pushed up to a min of a GTX 750. Before I upgraded to a GTX 970 I was running a GTX 680, which within reason could handle the game and far better than a PS3 could. That said it still is no longer a viable card with the new min specs, though that card is still good on other games like Overwatch. It is just simply a difference in graphics ideal.

I believe that the poster was comparing the relative ease of life in a developed nation such as the US vs the life in a developing nation with a shaky economy. I don't think they were saying anything that would diminish or demean your service, nor the difficulties that you face as a result of serving as you do.
I was mainly pointing out how its harder to stay up-to-date with gaming hardware in South America because of various issues with the postal system there inflating the costs a lot.

I'd never look down on how hard other people work to maintain their own gaming rigs. I'm disabled and I haven't been able to work for over 3 years and I absolutely would not be able to afford to build a PC on my own. I only have a good gaming PC right now because my older brother gives me his old parts when he upgrades. So I'm largely only still playing this game because I'm lucky enough to have a bro that will help me out. Most people aren't that lucky though and I respect that.

The question is if the graphics will actually require them, as the reason given for the increase was that the parts in the old system requirements are now out of production.

I know that feel. Customs makes everything bad here, but it's still a huge country so we can get good sales and promotions. I can't imagine how much harder it is for people living in smaller countries.

This is why the "anti PS3" sentiment kind of upsets me, it's like they forgot what makes MMORPGs a success or a failure.

I was not being cruel, I stated I spent over $900 more than once to upgrade PCs to play MMORPGs that used to run on older machines. Stating facts is not cruel, even if people don't like them. Heck my older laptop I bought in 2010 won't run Stormblood and barely runs Heavensward, but ran fine in 2.0.

So I'm not sitting on a high horse. The issue affects me directly. Besides, the ones in question who live in 'poor' countries have internet and means to play MMORPGs.. they're not doing that bad all things considering.

The whole PC Master Race rhetoric is a hell of a drug unfortunately, you'll never sway their opinions from that stance :/

I mean adore PC gaming, but I adore console gaming to.

Though I understand why the PS3 support ultimately came to an end, and who knows same could end up being said for 32-bit PC's as well, especially with the minimum requirements rising.

Pretty much every single metropolitan area in the entire world has at least an iffy internet connection, even North Korea. The only exception is for people who live in disaster areas or active war zones, and even they maintain access to twitter and facebook at least unless their neighborhood has been leveled.

A passing internet connection is not something exclusive to powerful developed countries anymore.

Stating facts can absolutely be cruel under the right circumstances; if this was a thread of PS3 players moaning, then it would of course be appropriate to counter them with facts. In the context of the situation, which you keep ignoring, this is a thread which was specifically created to jeer at the fact that members of a long-bullied demographic are getting shut out, which a bunch of 'helpful' PC zealots are using to patronise their console-using peers. Context is very important.

As I said on the very first page, the PS3 version of FFXIV is objectively worse to play than the other versions. Nobody is strongly disputing that fact. The PS3 players themselves know this, and I'm sure most of them (except maybe that one person who specifically wants to play in 4:3 forever...) would jump at the chance to move up to PS4 one day. I've been there, I've done it, and it's a big improvement for the game experience. But not everyone can. This isn't conjecture; I played FFXI on PS2 until the service stopped and numerous posts cite actual examples of FFXIV players who are struggling to transition.

When 1.x finished and the (PC-only) players couldn't access the game any more for an indeterminate amount of time, there was sympathy. There were vigils. There were groups supporting one another.

Console players don't get that. We're automatically the butt of every insult in every topic where technical constraints are mentioned - which is almost every topic, sooner or later. PC gamers struggle to do mechanics, and it's suddenly the console gamers' faults that they couldn't use a mod to give them an extra-special helping hand. The patronising advice is also ridiculous; we're always given tips on buying a PC as though we even want one in the first place (I don't, thanks, and it's not because I don't know how to buy or build one).

Even when the guy who makes the game explicitly says the next barrier is PCs, not consoles, those people who beg, borrow and scrape to save up for a PS4 know what's coming after two generations of systemic bullying. We can already hear the hyenas in the peanut gallery gearing up to cry 'PS4 limitations!' in spite of all evidence pointing the finger elsewhere. It's pathetic. It personally sickens me. People seriously have nothing better to do with their time than spit bile at an imaginary bogeyman and make other people feel bad about quietly playing a fantasy game in their free time.

So my counter to this mean-spirited topic was to challenge it and acknowledge the people who feel like garbage about this whole thing and the gleeful PC enthusiasts self-centredly celebrating in their misery. That's all. In the context of this discussion, rushing in to white knight with 'And I don't see the problem.' was not a kind way to react.
