Hmmm, looks like someone needs to get out more.
I think it's a bit mean-spirited to be honest. I'm on PS4 - the PS3 version is objectively terrible to play on anyway - but I played the PS2 version of FFXI from its year of release to the year it ended service and the constant clamouring for me to leave the game made me never visit its forums. With FFXIV, the console gamers who were signed up for the beta from its initial announcement already missed out on the whole of 1.x and have had to endure years of barbs and criticism from privileged people who think their own hunger for better textures and features trumps the right of others to play the game at all. Even though there's no evidence those better features are coming, or that the majority of them are even being held back due to the PS3 in the first place.
Even though the actual problem now is obviously going to be old PCs (32-bit setups, graphics drivers as explicitly cited by YoshiP in interviews) I just know that 'PS4 limitations' is going to be the new refrain from people too ignorant to concede that not everyone on Windows is running a tricked out gaming box (or that many limitations are related to servers/network considerations). Even though my PS4 is a million times better as a gaming machine than my PC, I'm preparing to hear the whining once again.
I support the end of PS3 service in this case, but I think the community reaction to the announcement is utterly mean-spirited.

In otherwords, the ps3 dropping will only cater to those who worry about graphics, perfect. Can't wait till they shut the ps4 down to overhaul every vase texture. PS3 was never an excuse, but now that its happening, I'm expecting to see several things, more customization options (because ps3 limitations)Actually being able to ride your airships (because ps3 limitations) or hey! ..... Allowing everyone to buy a damn house, Because you know, ps3 limitations. :/
Uh... have this city without loading zones and please never bring those subjects again.PS3 was never an excuse, but now that its happening, I'm expecting to see several things, more customization options (because ps3 limitations)Actually being able to ride your airships (because ps3 limitations) or hey! ..... I understand you're upset but yes blaming the PS3 for quite a few things is a super valid excuse for everything from character creation to UI limitations. You have to realize how absolutely weak the PS3 is. You should take a moment to look at the specs of the over decade old console and compare them to the lowest minimum requirements for the PC version of Stormblood. As Serilda kindly noted earlier, the PS4 version is ahead of the minimum PC requirements, so that isn't much of an issue yet.
I can appreciate that it must really suck to have to struggle for some to continue playing, but SE has made good on their promise for PS3 support from 1.0 and now it's time to move on.
