my g/f: hi, i've played ff14 on a ps3 till last summer. Ps3 didn't bog the game down as much as you guys thing, and only base this off theory and misconceptions. All ps3 people had was shorter draw distance, longer load times. I had no issues as a ps3 player, ya ps4 is better.. but no real difference outside hud, and faster load.

the only reason ff11 ps2 limitations existed because, the game was built from the ground up with ps2 in mind.

it is not the case for ff14.

They strive to offer the same experience no matter the platform. As the game advances with technologies, old systems have to go. It's not just the PS3, it's older graphics cards and operating systems as well. The PC version has higher minimum requirements come the expansion. So yes, the PS3 (and older PC hardware) was holding the game back. Now they'll have more to work with based on the new minimum specifications they give for the game.

I have friends in Peru and Costa Rica who aren't going to be able to play anymore because the PS3 is being dropped and new consoles cost extraordinarily more for them to buy (Peruvian friend told me $800 USD for a PS4 for him) locally. People from poorer countries are going to be hit the hardest by this.

A gaming pc would cost much more than a PS4 there, especially since 99% of the people I've ever met bought most of their parts online. It costs way more to ship things there. On top of having a worse infrastructure, their domestic currency being worth much less, import fees, and average income being lower there's a higher likelihood of packages getting "misplaced". I've never sent consoles or PC parts to South America but I have sent action figures and it was a mess. Think of any of the issues you may have had to sending something Canada x10.

It's going to be a long time before I see those guys again after PS3 support ends. I've accepted that it's necessary for the game but it still stinks for them.

And I've had to spend $900USD twice to keep my computer upgraded (well more than one computer, but we'll use one for the sake of argument) to play a few other MMOs over the last 16 years. It happens.

Those from 'poorer' countries probably need to take another look at their priorities compared to playing video games. Such as taking actions to affect their political situations so they can get rid of tariffs and improve shipping conditions to lower costs.

Sure, let's tell all the people too poor to spend $900 on hardware to leave and go overthrow their governments until their countries become exact clones of the USA and they deserve to play games, because if the game's team is too small to release texture packs now I'm sure losing subscribers will fix that. Plus the PC gamers who leave when their friends do, further draining income.

I'm from a wealthy country and in spite of that PC/PS4 upgrades cost substantially more than the USD prices being thrown around in this thread here. Some people have absolutely no idea how easy they have it. We're not here to pontificate about revolutionising world politics we don't understand from atop our high horses, we're here to try to play a fun game together!

A lot of people (PC gamers) also severely underestimate the cost of building a gaming rig. You can build a minimum viable configuration for a little under $400, but even if you stick to components a couple of years old, you're still going to spend at least $600. To purchase mid range components and a good quality case/PSU you're heading on up to $1000 territory.

While that minimum viable config might run some current games, it won't do so well with games released next year. So I really wish people would stop throwing stupid numbers around ab out the supposedly minimal cost of building your own gaming rig.

A PS4 costs far less to purchase than a basic gaming PC. Prebuilt gaming PCs start in the region of $700, I could have a PS4Pro with PS VR for about the same cost.

Obviously prices will change in other countries, but I believe that the relative costs will stay similar.

I've given blood sweat and tears for my country to have it as 'easy' as it does. Some in my battalion didn't even make it to a deployment because some crazy 'major' decided to shoot up the SRP center at Ft Hood. So don't lecture me on how I have it 'easy'. I've not suggested anything I haven't done myself. Such as spending hundreds to keep my PC's upgraded just to keep playing the games I've purchased. Or voting every year to make sure nothing stupid creeps in to make things too expensive.

I'm not responsible for keeping someone's hardware up to date. And SE isn't responsible if someone gets left behind after several years.
