That's not what I said, and not quite what I mean. There are many games that will not appear on PC, but do appear on multiple consoles. Generally AAA titles appear on both types of platform, but there are a lot of games that do not, and will not appear on PC but are on console, or are on PC and will never be on console. Yes, controllers work on PCs, that's not at issue, though Windows has never liked my handy dandy DS4 controller particularly well...

Can a console have its hardware swapped out and updated? No, not without using workarounds that jeopardize stability.
Yes, I can replace the HDD with an SSD, and even add an external HDD now. I can upgrade to motion controls and VR if I want, and now I can upgrade to a better GPU/CPU without changing my games or peripherals. I get your point about modular PC design, but objectively speaking, the only thing you're really talking about there is replacing the GPU.

There are a lot of qualifiers in that statement. If you take it back to the technology, there is a fair argument for the CellBE being considerably more powerful than x86 designs of the time. But the point is that when comparing any closed box solution to a bespoke solution, the bespoke solution always has the advantage of cherry picking the latest stuff on the market. On the other hand, average gamers with average wallets don't cherry pick in that manner.

If you're gaming on a 1080 60Hz screen, why do you need the latest and greatest gaming rig? Instead of spending the money on hardware, spend it on games.
