Gils is less mandatory for progression in XI that tomestones are in XIV

By only one month at the launch of SB, I'm pretty sure I can level one tank, one DPS, one healer, one crafter and one gatherer at 70. What will keep me playing between 4.0 and 4.1 ?

Gil was everything on Asura, that's how you gained most equip unless you camped NM's which was the most boring task ever in any game lol.

I think that's 'the problem' One month to complete an entire expansion? I guess I just play a lot less and therefore have more to do over a longer period of time. I may get a few dungeons in a night, and get some other bits done like a stack or 2 of whatever for mining etc. I'm pretty content with that. But sometimes I won't play for days because of real life excuses.
