Think most the outrage is not that there is a cash shop and they putting stuff in it, it the price they are charging for the items on top of paying a monthly sub. Lot of people seem to be unhappy

But isnt a part of that because so many players are agaisnt what is sold in there to begin with , like I said the items are so limited its hardly anything even in the mog station and I think thats an attempt to stay true to their base.

They added a dress oh the forums freaked on the dress is 18 dollars , they been selling the same three mounts on there for how long now. They put limited items in there so that people want start calling them buy to play , like I said swtor is a sub based game to and SE has every right to go in that direction if they want to yea you can play old stuff for free but the new stuff is still based on your sub. So with their limited options on what they can sale then I dont see a problem with an emote even being 10 dollars cause at the end of the day people will complain about it anyway literally on every item they have put in there sense Ive been scrolling the forums.

Last I checked swtor was a freemium that had both free and paid models. But I think you totally missed the point of my thread.

To keep and maintain this game or to make it stay competitive with other games you cant use the same business model from years past.

MMO's are not really growing like they did in years past, you have to do things similar to your competitors and that's what SE is doing

Probably because they look like total rip-offs now. I've tried to get friends to play FFXIV before, base game + expansion + subscription + items locked away in a cash shop is a very tough sell.

But there is nothing in the cash shop tho its literally nothing , all the mounts are in game basically but maybe three or four, we have all types of glamour even tho i hate the class restrictions but its there, we start off with like 50 plus emotes. We are given access to all types of stuff and yet because two new emotes are for sale when 50 plus where given to us for our 15 - 20 dollars we wont to complain come on. You dont want them to sale dresses, gear, or anything else on there , so whats wrong with a silly emote.

The game gives us tons and tons of content for our 15 dollars its a choice whether you want to partake in that content or not. Just like its a choice if you let this one emote get you angry when we already got 50 plus for our 15 dollars. Everything that goes to mog station isnt gonna be old some stuff will go straight there, and it shouldn't be a problem help the game out dont expect to get the world and then some for 15 bucks. And arr right now was costing like 10 bucks, hw barely more like 25 dollars thats nothing when you compare it to a game you go buy at wal mart for 60 dollars that ends in 10 hours, and you pay the sub because like I said earlier you get new content every 90 days and people still complain.

Its alot of complaints about this game I have mostly the community more so than the actual game itself but its still a great community so Im not gona say that its horrible. Just like I wouldn't call SE greedy just because they want to make an extra buck when I know what Im dealing with a business they are not our friends or parents that are suppose to make us happy and never say no they are a business thats providing a service and like all businesses looking for ways to maximize profits. The mog station has nothing in it that prevents you from going far into the game it only has wants not in game needs, we prob have one of the weakest cash shops in an mmo but yet people still are complaining over an emote that means nothing to the actual game its an emote, its not script gear or alex gear, or end game mounts, its an emote while they where puttin it in the cash shop they just gave us another free one at the same time with the my little lady stuff , people should be grateful instead of all this complaining when its more important issues in the game.

Lets not forget the fact that story skip potions are coming. What better way to tell everyone that we don't want to have to try to keep old content relevant anymore due to our strict vertical system. Oh, but you have to pay $$$ to skip it, were sorry finding groups for it may become even more difficult for you than it already is but at least this way were not forcing you, just inadvertently coercing you to (◕‿◕).

Yes but I think a lot less would complain about it and be more ok with. Least that what I feel is going on, that cash shop for what it selling it ok it just priced too high for be a sub game.

If the cost of the item is the issue then just wait for them to show up on sale. They do occasionally run sales on items in the mogstation if I'm not mistaken.

I don't mean to assume, but this sounds like people are simply looking for reasons not to play. While this here is the most likely culprit.

Wouldn't really say that. There are around 200 items in the cash shop. 200~ items in a subscription game. Most of it is old stuff but it is sort of ridiculous to me. I think XIV's cash shop is more aggressive than WoW's which for most of the old seasonal stuff is still available in game the following year.

XIV's cash shop is updated almost every month. Only thing we don't have now is the WoW token.

The only thing you could say is most of it is cosmetic (well until they release the jump potions anyway).

Anyways, it's how the game industry is now. Even though you buy a full game they still try to sell you day one DLC and season passes. "Buying the game" doesn't give you everything anymore and hasn't for a long time.

I find 3 is the magic number, most people seem fine with buying a game with a cash shop (or DLC), or buying a game and subbing, or playing a game with a cash shop and a subscription. Game + sub + shop is to much.
A subscription isn't an easy sell nowadays I agree, but it would be much easier if FFXIV wasn't decked out with every other money making scheme on top of it.

I think that ship has sailed honestly. There are just way more people willing to buy it (same with the cash shop, I usually don't buy anything) instead of putting their foot down unless the game is 100% complete garbage.

Even old fashioned companies like Nintendo are doing it now. (Zelda DLC)

Mobile is making wads of cash doing this same thing albiet more on the pay to win side of things.

I have some hope though, they're a minority these days but there are some studios can resist the temptation to liberally sprinkle micro-transactions and DLC over everything they make.
