The inherent flaw to running content sync'd is that 24-man raids aren't able to be level sync'd at this point (to the best of my knowledge). There were groups on reddit that were looking to run a lot of content sync'd for the challenge, and even went so far as to manually equip exact ilvl among their entire 24-man to get it done. It's out there. Most of the "no bonus" PF posts are for farms, and a farm usually isn't meant for first-timers. They want to grind as fast as possible multiple times. However the "CLEAR" posts are generally for bonus. People just don't need to advertise that, it's implied.
If you dragged your feet, that's entirely your fault. Most of the content has been out there for a lonnnng time, and over time a lot of it was nerfed (see: Anima weapon) for those who waited too long. They already saw that some people will wait for winter and complain they have no heat or food, and realized that new players would be in the same scenario. So that's kinda a non-excuse.
As for the last paragraph, Square does NOT need money. This game is still sub-based and you can easily find online how much they rake it on that alone... These pots are GREED and GREED ALONE.

For a company that made $1.3 billion USD in sales and $194 million USD in operating income (subscriptions are in that number), with a reported company-wide net profit of $152 million USD in nine months, I don't think we can argue these pots are needed to keep the company, or FFXIV, running.
Not to mention that as far as all my research shows, FFXIV is the #2 subscription MMORPG on the market, and this is even in spite of a lull in players in the months leading up to a major expansion which will explode the playerbase with new and returning players all over again. So if you wanted people to run all that "old" content, I'd be online around June through August.
