I feel the Story Skipper will have players sit through a 'Retrospective' cutscene of sorts, where the plot of ARR and HW is explained to the user leading up to 4.0. I'm sure it could all be explained in 10-20 minutes.

I wish FFXIV's expansions weren't continuous, but that's just what SE has decided, rather than do what FFXI did (excluding Zilart, every expansion had its own story that eventually all came together in Rhapsodies... sort of). So because of lore being a gate, SE had to make a skip potion so that new players/alts would be able to do current content with their friends... if they choose to.

That'd be the smart way to handle it.

Fact is someone who's going to buy a story skip like that already acknowledges they aren't interested in the story. Or if they are but want to skip it anyway, there are solutions for that too.

Gating off expansions with other expansions creates an issue. Maybe not now really, but it will a few expansions from now. So why not nip it in the bud? I played through the entire story because I was playing the game. Most of it is decent... some of it is stupid... some of it is busywork. I don't really care if someone else who isn't me wants to skip it. Why should I?

Heeeheee. Make it a 10 hour unskippable cutscene that they have to click button to move the text along.
