Yeah they're sweet. I have three 270's at the moment (just finishing my WHM) and am working on a few more - astro, bard and summoner all at the light stage.

I personally love it. But I've played games where it was a lot different. You either raided or you ran your head hard into a content and gear ceiling. As a slight aside, as a community, we really have to stop this "Us vs. Them", Raiders vs. "Casuals" mentality. How about we try to come together and work together for once? I speak as someone who raids AND grinds out relic every patch. If anything, we ALL should be glad that there are multiple paths, and OPTIONS to get to end game gear levels.
I think you mean the next weapon questline. Or will we get an Anima II questline in 4.0?
I wouldn't mind if we saw a continuation of the anima weapon in 4.0 to be honest. A weapon that grows with us through the expansions would be pretty cool. Hard to justify it going from awesomeness at the end of HW to lameness at the start of Stormblood but I'm sure they could find a reason. I'd just like to know if I could turn my BLM staff into a RDM Sword at the first step of the quest. First step for anima had you farm fates for crystals, -or- turn the previous final relic into the astral/umbral nodes you needed. Don't know if that worked with -any- Zeta weapon, or if it -had- to be the one for the class you were getting the anima for.
At the end of the zodiac (2.0 relic) you try to awaken sentience in the weapon when you complete it. You pretty much dumped it on HW launch even after all that or blew it up to start the next one. I think they'll wipe the slate clean since it also works as a convenient excuse to not design anima weapons for the new jobs just like AST, DRK and MCH don't have zodiac weapons.
Why yes, I DO want to spend an entire expansion on a weapon that is both time gated and content gated only for it to be worse than a PvP weapon. That sounds amazing
in all serious though, let's just stand back and actually see what's required for Anima
Let's assume every step is completed within the same day.
Let's also assume we're starting at nothing- no unidentifiables, no oils, no umbrites, no clusters. How much would that run you?
you blast through the crystal and dungeon steps,
now you have to buy the inidentifiables- if using just lore, it would run you 12,000 lore. since the other items are through GC seals, it would run you 100,000 seals
We move onto the aether oil step. I'll consider the nerf here. You'll need to buy 4 at 700 lore each after the weekly, another 2,800 lore.
And now we get to the umbrite step. For this, we assume RNG hates you and you get no bonuses. so you gotta buy 80, bucko. that's 24,000 lore added to the heap.
Singing cluster time! We knock off 11 for the quests meaning we gonna buy another 39- 5,850 more lore!
Before we count pneumites (I haven't bothered doing the 270 step yet) this "glamour-only" weapon would take...
At least 1 full day,
100,000 Grand Company Seals
44,650 Lore
Whatever resources you spent to get 80 sands,
However many dungeons you had to run to acquire the required lore.
All assuming it was done in a day. Also keeping in mind all these steps are only actually available at the end of the expansion. They werent all here from the start.
All this for a proposed weapon weaker than a single dungeon piece.
That sounds fair. That's about the same amount of work as a PvP weapon. Or farming for a dungeon drop.

True, but then we just get into one player trying to decide what another player "deserves" to have and that gets ugly fast. Anima weapons have the potential to be better than raid weapons because you can customize the stats. It also takes WAAAAAAAY longer to build an anima weapon than it does to down a raid boss (if you're capable of downing the raid boss).
Your attempt to put words in my mouth is adorable.
I've done the raiding and the relic. I think the game is fine as is. Even if they made the relics same ilvl as the raiding stuff IDC. Relic can be worse for some then raiding, and vice versa. Anyway in 4.0 we are getting it thru some different content called Eureka, which sounds neat so far.
If anything the issue isn't that they are close to ilvl, it's that there is nothing to do with the raiding weapons except be a true hero of Eorzea and stand with it in idlyshire. I guess I could do my roulettes faster!! Awesome...
