I really like these as options.
Hopefully there'll be a mark on peoples' Search Info after using them so we know who to blame when they inevitably are laughably unprepared for even the most basic dungeon mechanics.
You want another "presumed negative effect"? Dungeons are going to have to be made pointlessly easier just to accomodate people jumping into them with no experience in the game. The alternative? Dungeons have some difficulty to them and you can get trapped into a timesink party with one or more dead weight players who, trust me, may very likely be extremely resistant to criticism / instruction from other players. I've encountered two White Mages in the level 50 range who not only didn't use Regen, but outright refused to use it when instructed to.
In addition, have fun with slower queues now that people can just skip past all of that. Users who choose not to fork over the cash to cheat their way through now have a worse experience because of it.

I'm glad I'm still playing on PS3 and have no absolutely no plans to upgrade. /Salute.
Is it reset Tuesday yet.
I question whether I'm playing a PvE game with PvP mixed in, or I am I playing a PfG.

Not seeing any real drawbacks here. The price is steep enough this will not become the commonplace nor will it invalidate old content. For those uninterested in the story, they now have an option to skip ahead. Square Enix may as well make money off it.
Players who are uninterested in the story can already skip ahead. They already mash left mouse button through all the dialogue and skip every cutscene.

Personally, I really hope you introduce this with the Stormblood expansion. It would be great for bringing new players into the game, without them having to spend so much time working though the previous two expansions. With the options for both the story clear, and the job leveling up, it gives players the choices that they are wanting to make.
I would add that if there is a "digital collectors edition" - the one that is bundled with the previous two versions (ARR, and HW) perhaps include the story jump, and one job level boost (the user would redeem a code to pick the job boost) with the game sale. For example, if the game comes to XBOX, allowing players to redeem that with the cost of the game would be a welcome option (IMO).
Ether way, I wouldn't worry about the negatives, I would like to see a "previously on FFXIV..." type of system at some point, too, that could be tied into this, or into players returning after a while.![]()

I think people are overreacting a bit here. I don't see any issue with this service at all. The points that Yoshi-p brought up are super logical.

I think this kind of thing is a necessary thing going forward. However I also think it shouldn't be done in a vacuum.
Access to a tutorial system is important with such additions, both for existing players who have to play with the jumped player and the jumped player who have to learn how to play there class. The idea of a Hall of the Intermediate was mentioned in an interview. If you are looking to implement a lvl jump potion I think this is an important addition to add. FF14 jobs are rather complex compared to a lot of MMOs and some guidelines on how to play there job right would be very valuable. Additionally its a service existing players would get use out of too.
While not exactly necessary, I think a better summary on the previous story would be needed than the existing cutscene Journal. It only tells so much. A proper 'the story so far' would be solid addition, even if its a series of text pages on a website. Again this is something existing players would get value out of because it would be a useful refresher. You forget things after 2 years.
While I like the idea of a 'Starter pack' Korean style, I am not really convinced on selling Job potions to existing players. Frankly its very easy to level up new Jobs these days. Content like PotD make it almost trivial. As a result the barrier of entry for trying out new jobs is rather small. These Jump potions should be primarily to assist in the accessibility of the game for new players. If you deviate from that you will probably find a lot less support.
Done right and with the right support this could be a healthy addition to the game. Done wrong and your prone to find it causing no end of drama. Do remember, western and eastern markets behave differently to products like this. How one group interacts with the product isn't necessarily true for both.
