Another fun fact is that ff14 hasnt been out for even half the time of ff11. One other fun fact is that ff11 had little competition during its prime. And now that there is competition, the game is dead. Which means ff11 clearly aint doing it right anymore.

Actually 14 has been nowhere near half, not even a quarter. 11 is 14 *hah, ironic* years old, of course its glory days are long behind, no one once argued that and it really isn't up to you to debate the merits of it's success. It comes with the territory. Mmo's age and become less and less popular til they are very small or go f2p. While it may be true mmo's were not yet oversaturated there are many other factors to consider such as the weight of it's name at the time. Everquest, as an example, had been out for awhile and appealed more so to a western market. We also can't compare how successful 14 is compared to 11, because we won't ever have access to those figures but I doubt they will ever come close. Remember 14 1.0 tanked costing them millions and a ton of bad PR and then had to use even more money to rebuild. 11 only made them money, and a ton of it, though there was no cash shop in that game, so that certainly will help 14 in the long run but at what cost.
