Well. I was looking a artwork for Samruai Rising, android game developed by Square Enix, which takes the jobs from final fantasy which make almost all classes look like samurai or eastern like (not all of them).
What a bout a Red Mage Samurai DPS and classic Samurai tank (or viceversa)? Yes, overcharged with too many eastern things, but, eh, I wanna dream too and this can put a end to the discussion and make all happy (almost all).
Well ok, no one wil lbe happy but is a idea...
I think this one is the Red Mage

I admit I like that Red Mage.
I have looked it up and that is the Red Wizard, since I reckon Red Wizard = Red Mage, you are correct and that is the Red Mage. The girl on the front with the pretty outfit is called the Ying Yang Master (Onmyoji).

Plot twist; The release Samurai as a Tank, but it doesn't Tank... Instead they mash Beast Master in there, and all those runs of dungeons I've tanked with Titan-Egi finally add up to something!
Seriously though, we could be Yojimbo... A Samurai with a faithful companion... Have that Tank, give Samurai a bow, let them "Tank" from a distance with some Shadewalker style mechanic for their pet...
OK, probably best to keep Samurai and Beast Master separate, I just wanted to mention Yojimbo... A proper pet tank would be quite interesting though, and Beast Master is somewhat similar to Warrior in terms of gear identity... Hey, we had a one handed sword wielder and two handed axe wielder, to getting a two handed sword wielder... Makes sense to me for the next tank to be a one handed axe wielder...

I would love to see a mage tank (yeah, can tank with magic shields without needing a heavy armor), mainly RDM or BLU, and a pet tank, would love to see PUP doing that, with a similar amount of characterization it had on FFXI.
I can see a mage tank working. Just like a stance give them a spell that alters stats or such. Hopefully we can see a mage-tank at some point, only cus I've yet to see a game pull it off.

interesting links the samurai in that....could go either dps or tank by the looks of it, I guess the debate continuesI have looked it up and that is the Red Wizard, since I reckon Red Wizard = Red Mage, you are correct and that is the Red Mage. My only concern about a mage tank like people are describing here is how useful it is without that stat swaping stance, like can you turn it off or are you instantly dead if you do.
Also wouldn't a counter basesed tank be locked into the MT position.

Whatever will be the new tank (if we get someone new) will be stuck on Fending Gear. They won't make a specific gear for a single new type of tank, because that will make things hard for loot. Now, if Red Mage/Blue mage uses the fending gear, won't be precisely the Red Mage/Blue mage people wants... Samurai in fending gear can pass (if the PLD can go with that weird Gordian/midan thing, he can go too), but, definitely, the Blue/Red mage not. And they won't add new gear for the old content. We got weapons for the old content on HW, but only weapons. The gear was shared with previous classes.
I don't think Square ENix will change their schemes.
