You know I admit that it would be a touch off the norm (nothing wrong with that) but I would actually like a Caster Tank, perhaps with a trait they are not able to be interrupted except for skills that do so such as stun, paralyze and silence.
It doesn't affect me what role they ultimately decide to have Samurai fill, I main Dragoon and I will always main Dragoon to the nigh-exclusivity of all of the other classes. No amount of tank/healer classes any MMO developer could add to their game will make me change my preference to playing a damage-dealer.
It doesn't matter the game, but so long as they use the holy trinity of tank/healer/DD, there will always be an abundance of players playing dps and a shortage of players filling the roles of tank/healer. And it always amuses me that some folks solution is "THEY NEED TO ADD MORE TANK/HEALER CLASSES THEN THERE WOULD BE MORE TANK/HEALERS PLAYER" when that has been repeatedly refuted. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with additional tank/healing classes, there will ALWAYS be a shortage of players willing to fill those roles.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
It's not so much "tank hate" as it is "Oh my glob, not this again" because the more annoying vocal minority resort to the tired hat of "IF THEY ADDED MORE TANKS/HEALERS THERE WILL BE MORE PLAYERS PLAYING TANKS/HEALERS" when that has never been the case. Sure, the addition of more tank/healing classes DO provide a bump in population for those roles, but most players are going to stick to being damage dealers for one reason or another.

Yep it is not the issue of not having enough Tank class but that Tank Role is generally less rewarding and satisfying when the cons of playing a tank role out ways the pros. Pros
- Shorter DF waiting time
- less people trying to get the same gear in the group.
- Tank Job is higher in demand for groups.
Cons
- People expect a lot more from you
- If you die the group dies with you
- If something goes wrong then expect to be blamed
- Missing Tank mechanics is less forgiving than other roles
- Keeping up Aggro when teams are randomly hitting targets without keeping track on their own aggro
- Gear is expected to be up to date far more than other Jobs due to Defense and HP demand.
- people expect you to Speed Run dungeons or else you're considered a "Noob"
- Certain Tank players have caused a bad reputation among the Tank population for being "Too demanding" and "Impatient" as there are Tank players who would generally instantly leave a DF group if there is 1 new player thus the burden of proving to others you are not like those players.
- Demand for the Tank Player to already know mechanics a head of a DPS and Healer Job is higher as they must meet demand to stay alive more.
- People are less forgiving on New Player Tanks.
The introduction of more Tank Jobs will certainly not increase the tank population as much as people may believe as the increase in population is simply a short term result of people being interested in the Job itself and not the Role of the Job.
Once players have experience the Job itself then they experience the burdens of being a Tank Job which is where people make the choice if they will stay to play a Tank Role or move into DPS or Healer Job.
Few people will accept the burden of a Tank Job but they also must not let it become a tool that they can use to threating DF groups they join just because they are a Tank Job as there still remain plenty of people who will abuse their Role as a Tank to threaten DF groups to meet their demands. However, DPS and Healers must also remember not to treat all Tanks as these "Improper Tanks" just because they are not meeting their expectations on what a Tank Player should be or what they would have done if they were a Tank Job

I absolutely do not want to see SAM as tank....it would be like making DRG a tank.
just stahp -.-
have you seen any movies or anime, where samurai, is anything else than "DPS"?
SAM existed before XI, and either way, this isn't XI - When are people gonna stop treating XI as canon?
Honestly just make SAM a tank class so FF fans can suffer the same pain DRK's do.
Make it OT as well so the WAR also has trouble finding a raid spot.
The arguments I'm reading from some people who don't want Samurai as tank are most of them very weird (Not oly in this thread). Really. So, Samurai doesn't suit tanking, but blue mage or red mage yes? Some saying that "it is a waste put Samurai as Tank, like DRK"? What?
So, only the crap classes should be tanks, tanks cannot be cool classes. I can't believe what I read here... "Samurai is one of the favourites of most players, should be DPS, is it a waste if they put as tank..." Okay. Good, screw tanks, they have no right to have cool classes.
DPS has the "cooler" classes, like Ninja, Dragoon or Black Mage, but is not enoguh, you want all, Dark Knigth,Samurai, all. Tanks get teh scrap then?

Why would you wish that on the community?
You realize how powerful SAM would need to be to do that? It just creates more problems because, now what's stopping SAM from MT?
I don't want SAM to be a tank like you, but not for the same reasons you mentioned.I absolutely do not want to see SAM as tank....it would be like making DRG a tank.

About samurais being "DPS" in movies or anime, have you seen anything being a tank? Because if so, surely you've also seen samurais taking hits. Don't get me started about mages.
Also, I will stop relating to FFXI when people stop doing the same with WoW. Because, you know, after all, this is a FF, and not a Warcraft game. And the second online FF after XI, mind you!
