However I do want to see some titles affect the dialog we get from various NPC's instead.

I don't see why people would be against the idea of changing your party bonus using a title
"Looking for SCH for Static. Keeper of Knowledge of GTFO!"
"Sophia EX clear party, must have Raid experience and Pure White title"
"Bird Farm for Zurvan. Will kick players that refuse to change from lame titles like Mammeteer"
If the deluge of asshole PFs and the community making certain titles mandatory to join isn't enough reason, titles also have an advantage over gear: They can be changed mid fight, allowing players permanent easily manipulable buffs during downtime.
Put simply at least having multiple titles purely for cosmetics allows for actual choice, making them have an effect on DPS would take that away and replace that with the illusion, and it will lead to multiple people only using the exact same title and berating others for their preference for titles (which I imagine would affect role players the most).

Doesn't make any sense. It would be much more like, "Hey, we need a mND buff and have both a BRD and a NIN - lucky for us our NIN also has a 60 WHM so they'll throw it up for you"."Looking for SCH for Static. Keeper of Knowledge of GTFO!"

As opposed to now, where it's just well sucks to be you, i know i know.
The chances of what you are saying happening is as likely as people excluding ASTs and getting WHMs only just for the MND buff - no one will do it, because the MND buff is not that important. Hell would you rather a SCH with that title but has 100 less MND than one who doesn't? or skill wise? Makes 0 sense.
Edit: As an aside. Honestly, the fear of elitism and stuff like this has become so annoying, that I actually would prefer to have elitists around than people who fear it.

The funny thing about this whole thing is how the idea of titles=stats gives people the illusion that we would have more customization, but we'd just make things even more homogenized than they are now. Everyone would use the same 2-5 titles. I'd like to use whatever titles I want without worrying about needing a certain one to have the right boosts.
And yet, I know several BLM who're terrified of the PIE bonus from SCH and AST being removed, because it will screw up their rotations (and they don't like doing anything without a SCH/AST, either). Tanks also love having a MNK or DRG in party to boost their damageThe chances of what you are saying happening is as likely as people excluding ASTs and getting WHMs only just for the MND buff - no one will do it, because the MND buff is not that important. Its not fear though, its reality. If you have two people who are similarly skilled, and seem to perform the same, the one with the title you want is going to get chosen 100% of the time. Heck, he will even if he was the weaker of the two (up to a certain point. But, the group may then continue to search rather than take the person without the title). The title provides a buff to the group the other does not have, and it shows that the person is putting in the effort to be better (or, shows the one without is lazy. You see that now with people who meld gear efficiently vs those who don't meld or meld poorly. Even if the person with bad melds is better, he's saying he doesn't care enough or is just ignorant of how to meld properly [and isn't willing to do research], which could be a problem in raid.)
I mean if there were titles you'd be grinding those out to max your stats anyways, and there would more than likely be stat boosting titles from maxing out another class. Also, not having 3 STR probably isn't going to make or break your savage run.
I feel in a party of 8 people, where most people level alts, the likely hood that you can choose your stat bonus is higher than in situations otherwise. i.e. What if you have a NIN BRD SMN BLM - then no STR bonus for your tanks, but 2x DEX? It would be great for 1 of those guys to adjust their bonus. This would allow for more compositions to exist if anything. And yet, I know several BLM who're terrified of the PIE bonus from SCH and AST being removed, because it will screw up their rotations (and they don't like doing anything without a SCH/AST, either). In terms of the elitism comment, my issue is that everyone is so fearful of elitism that they come out in hordes against anything that may add some flavour to the game. The people suck in both situations, but at least the elitists are playing a fun game.

I play another game where stat boosts are built into titles. You can even 'glamour' over titles in a way, although to be honest, everyone just used the same 2-5 titles for stats. That game had stat customization that was similar to FFXIV, which is to say, pretty much none at all. The most desirable titles come from competitive content (speedrun rankings, etc.) and they all expire after a while.
For the most part, the only real gameplay difference the titles made was groups demanding other players to show certain titles as proof of their experience. Which brought a whole series of problems that I'm sure I don't have to explain.
