I think the opposite. Some people aren't going to want to fork over more money for the merchandise just so they can get the code. Also those who are going to buy the merchandise the a secondary code for older items isn't a make or break deal. This way they can keep pumping out new codes for those merchandise that will just get added on later to their Mog Station item. They can double dip money wise and make both types of consumers happy. The only one's who won't be happy are the same people who cry that their shouldn't be a cash shop in a sub based game.

It's similiar to Fanfest. Those who wanted to go wasn't going to not go if they didn't get any type of ingame bonus code. Those who didn't go wouldn't of all of a sudden went just for the bonus code.
