As an often drunk dad, I just realized I have quite a few structures on my property that may advertise my um.. frequent enjoyment of beverages.
Not really. Rather than arguments because the numbers told you so, you had arguments based on myths and any confirmation bias the hive mind was subject to. Shame shit, different cause. It's an extension of human nature, is inevitable and as such a poor argument against addons.Games that existed before add-ons were objectively more friendly though. There has always been toxicity in playerbases, but the mandatory drive of add-ons and parsers have made it worse in modern MMOs. In my opinion, add-ons are one of the single worse things to ever come to gaming, but I come from a time before such things existed so I may just be having a "good ol' days" nostalgic moment.
Hell, I could argue that addons, specially the ones along the lines of Big Wigs and DBM would open up raiding to those who have trouble memorizing every step of a boss fight. Not to mention the people looking for hard numbers to improve their performance and measure themselves against the best in the world.
To me, this is probably somewhere between PS limitations and some degree of control. I'm sure some devs are adverse to having players figure out everything about the game (which would explain why we don't have accuracy percentages, crit percentages and so on available to us). Parsers in particular would make it easier to gauge stat weights and other useful information.
* The sad thing is that FFXIV turned RDM into a turret, and people think that's what it's supposed to be. It's supposed to combine sword and magic into something more, not spend the bulk of gameplay spamming spells and jump into melee for only 3 GCDs before scurrying back to the back line like good little casters.
* Design ideas:
Red Mage - COMPLETE (https://tinyurl.com/y6tsbnjh), Chemist - Second Pass (https://tinyurl.com/ssuog88), Thief - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/vdjpkoa), Rune Fencer - First Pass (https://tinyurl.com/y3fomdp2)
DPS meters didn't do that, and WoW's community is only a little worse than this one. Compared to F2P MMO's, WoW's community is fairly strong actually.
Besides, WoW doesn't make you use 3 separate rotations depending on what buffs/debuffs are up coupled with your position on the boss, etc.. so people rarely do shitty enough DPS to actually get called out on it.
The method also protects users from detection as it doesn't interact with, intercept, or read the games software. If reading network traffic was against the ToS, then SE will have users in the ToS agree to disable their firewall and anti-virus programs before playing the game. The reason I mentioned ACT is because someone mentioned that SE should just not allow access the log in the API and I was explaining that that will just have users revert to the methods we have right now anyway (and the log isn't useful).The only reason why I didn't involve ACT because I wanted this thread to be specifically about the API and directly ingame interaction, you might right at the moment that the battle log omits however ACT API for FF14 could of been designed to function to mainly gather network traffic due to SE BS rules on that.
I'm pretty sure that any UI information that gives access to the numerical display of damage (flying text) will be sufficient for a DPS meter anyway so the point of about preventing the usage of the API to prevent the creation of DPS meters in SE's part is valid. Either the API will be completely useless, or the small amount of information it does give will be enough for you to reconstruct the data for making a dos meter. It should also be noted that a DPS meters is already in the game. During PvP, there is a counter (along with the game timer) which determines the total amount of damage and healing done by both teams in the instance. It's already available information with the features of the game and probably stored in an internal counter during instances. This is also how SE is able to use their own logs to determine when there are people cheating in raids:

It was a hyperbole... Thousands of add-ons would mean that there are thousands of software developers playing the game. I would wager that there are certainly less than 100 software developers (real developers, not hobbyists) with skill on the windows platform (windows is a monster to develop on due to a lot of non-standard stuff that MS does) who also active enough players of the game to even warrant making changes in their free time. Even then, software developers have a secret oath to not reinvent the wheel, so duplication of other work is discouraged. There's only some much unique things one can do with an already limited UI.Also looking at http://mods.curse.com/ which holds a large amount of addons for other mmos, unless its WoW which has had over 10 years behind it, other mmos do not have thousands of addons.
That was me though not quite what I said, I for one want there to be a DPS meter through addons, but I am also questioned to why other elements couldn't be brought in already which questions the whole delay this has been having from SE in general.The method also protects users from detection as it doesn't interact with, intercept, or read the games software. If reading network traffic was against the ToS, then SE will have users in the ToS agree to disable their firewall and anti-virus programs before playing the game. The reason I mentioned ACT is because someone mentioned that SE should just not allow access the log in the API and I was explaining that that will just have users revert to the methods we have right now anyway (and the log isn't useful).
The PS4 and PC version run nearly identically because the PC version isn't allowed to have anything the PS4 version can't have... When we got TP meters we lost the party stat bonus UI because the console versions didn't have enough memory. The PC version had to lose it as well even though it had abundant memory, just to keep things 'fair'.Lmao that's the best thing I've read here in awhile. You realize that the PS4 and PC version run nearly identical right? And the PS4 and Xbox are very similar hardware wise? The reason the game has had updates held back is the fact the PS3 is nearly a decade old, which is like trying to use 19th century tech in today's world when it comes to hardware. Let's also not forget the Mac version of the game would also have to have add ons configured for it as well. Or the fact the SE evidently can't hire anymore developers for this game so content gets gutted because lack of manpower. But yes, let's just blame the consoles, that's the only reason the game has issue.
The addons issue IS a console limitation problem as well. You cannot install addons for a game on console unless you do it via the game's online store. That means if this game gets addons, SE need to negotiate a special system to facilitate players on consoles uploading and downloading addons via the PSN store. That is a HUGE undertaking and will likely cost SE more money than it's worth to be honest. Since the players on console likely won't get addons, those of us on PC can't get them either in order to keep things 'fair'.
If you truly don't think the consoles are holding this game back you really haven't been following the development of this game much.

This is quite true. The addition of LFG and LFR did far more damage to the community than any addon ever had, or will. When you have to rely on a closed population, you had to keep your reputation up and create a network. We knew who could perform well, who could CC like a champ, who could DPS without being pants-on-head stupid, who ninja'd loot, and who were reasonable people to group with. When in LFG, more people couldn't give a rat's ass about their behaviour since it it wasn't likely that you would run into the same people on your battlegroup (server cluster).

which playstation at least the 3 or the 4?
Both, because it's got nothing to do with the actual hardware and everything to do with how Sony allows DLC to be distributed. You can't just go click on a website, download and install it. It would have to be obtained through the Playstation store.
