Forgetting isn't a conscious choice, so easier said than done.
Edit: Out of posts for the day, so I'll respond to the last few comments making fun of my supposed forgetfulness here and the last assumption:
Please stop being insensitive. I CAN'T HELP THAT I FORGET. If after 2 years I still haven't "conditioned" myself, I don't think it's going to happen.Stop forgetting to repair before you go in in the first place? I can understand forgetting every once in a while, but forgetting so often that you feel SE needs to step in and help you? Sounds like a personal problem to me and one that has two easy solutions: stop forgetting to repair so often or suck it up and level your crafters so you can do it yourself whenever and wherever you want.
So then make it a habit. I've conditioned myself to automatically check my equipment whenever I enter an area with a mender. If stuff it low I'll repair the stuff I have the crafters for and then I'll go to the NPC for the other items whose class I haven't finished leveling yet. None of my equipment ever drops below 70% unless I spend a long time wiping in a single duty.
Whether I'm more forgetful than the average person or not, it's not something I can help. It's not my fault.
Please stop being insensitive to people who aren't as perfect as you. This feature would greatly help people like myself, and help you as well by default. Making fun of people who may have problems they can't help isn't nice.
I'm going to start calling you Assumey, since you assume so much. I did not quit TSW over this issue. I quit for a few reasons. One was that I met someone who got very abusive towards me there. Another was that the end zone and its combat changes killed my interest in it. I like this game better overall now, but you're insane if you think that means everything here is better. TSW had QoL superiority over this game in many ways. Another example is the lack of server borders, friends from all servers can play with each other at any time. Would you call that a bad thing too?
It's not a bad suggestion and the only answer to the contrary is that this suggestion would apparently devastate crafting. Maybe if the crafting system in this game wasn't designed like a tower of sticks with an impossible gap between beginning and end game crafting, it wouldn't.

crafting has not been the "only defense" against your "QoL suggestion", it's merely the only one you choose to harp over. There has been several other reasons, ranging from it going against the lore that's provided about each dungeon, causing to make little to no sense, to it just being absolutely worthless since the vast majority are capable of checking their crap before going into a dungeon. All are LEGITIMATE reasons to not add this, whether you like it or not.
as for me assuming, there's not much else one can do with the way you respond to things. But, you'll find fault with that statement as well, I'm sure.
In regards to the absurdity that you described as the state of your inventory, that is entirely a "you" issue. if you're too lazy to deposit gear and items, that's on you, not the devs, not us. Also, I am vastly in love with glamouring, and I'd never keep multiple copies of pieces of gear. Ever. That is absurd. Keep the dyes, dye when you're ready to dye. there is zero need for you to walk around at 90/100, other than you CHOOSING and WANTING to do so. But hey, who know, maybe you have a valid reason to do what you do, I don't know you.
As to your claim about "Forgetting isn't a conscious choice", if you're "forgetting" THAT much that repairing is a problem, after all the prompts that come up on screen, then yes, it's a conscious choice to not repair your gear.

With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.

You don't have to craft a single item to level up a crafter.
just buy the needed items for the leves or Grand Company from the market board or from NPCs, whatever is cheaper.
exactly this is what is missing
