I will say, as someone who started out as a tank, doesn't have alot of problems tanking at 60, and has an alt that I sometimes play that is currently a Gladiator.

Tanking pre-30 really sucks, mostly when playing with people who are quite a bit beyond the dungeons level. They may be ilvl synced, but they WILL be in much better gear while the tank, at best, will be in mostly dungeon gear if that (not getting started on the first three dungeons where they most likely are still in complete whites). In general the bosses are pretty easy, but trying to keep a group on you, more so if the DPS is deciding to attack different targets, is much more difficult before getting even Sword Oath.

That said I wouldn't really say this is an enemity problem so much as a gear problem, as many new tanks are going to be at a massive disadvantage in these case. It isn't till about Halitali that it starts to get a bit better.

MRDs, atleast, have Overpower which works out better overall atleast even with the gear disparity.

It'll teach new tanks how to cycle through their mobs at least encouraging the best enmity gain as a tank should be a thing not flash/unleash/overpower 3 times and afk for the rest of the dungeon. The only tank class really getting shafted is paladin as war and drk get both their tank stances at 30 which are 10000 times better then paladins. SE should just give them shield oath first then sword oath at 40 instead of the other way around.

I used to play a paladin and it was a pain specially back in 2.0 where flash was really bad but it never came close to how bad warriors were until the warrior rehaul. If you wanna complain about threat you should of seen old warrior it was soul crushing...

We did it back before threat buffs when ilvl/dps was out scaling tps by large margins via the same methods as today.

Savage blade even got a buff now. There really isn't any reason for aggro issues.

Ha! Marauders are overpowered in sub-30 content and need no buffs. Level a dragoon to 22 and pick up Invigorate. Level a pugilist to 12 and get internal release (or even better, level an archer to 4 for raging strikes). Cross-class these with your marauder and kill half the dungeon by yourself with endless overpower spam. It's ridiculous.

When you compare FFXIV to other MMOs, tanks have to really work to keep hate. I remember when I first started coming from WoW - it was one hell of a culture shock. In fact, it isn't a stretch to say that 1-40 tanking in dungeons is all about managing aggro, and that that's where the tanking game is. It's slightly easier once you get your tank stance, but it's still nothing like it was in WoW, where they handed you aggro just for existing.

Use Flash/Overpower/Unleash 2-3 times at the start of the fight, and intermittently through the encounter if you have ranged DPS or a Monk, mark your targets, and cycle your enmity combo between them, and you'll do just fine.

I did the same and the only thing I have to say is it's hard enough new players get discouraged and give up tanking.

If I were a pally, I'd say the problem may lie within the shield tossing. A DPS sees your first skill go off in low level dungs and they take that to mean 'Start unloading.' If that shield lob doesn't generate some sweet aggro, I'd say it may be more effective to use it as a 'Mob is getting away' button kinda like unmend for DRKs (Although no one really uses it this way if they don't have to.) That said, my pally isn't even 25 yet, I generally dislike the play style for some reason. Best you can do as a quick fix is maybe say, "Wait until I flash" to your party mates.[/QUOTE]

Actually you are right the problem is shield lob, tomahawk, and unmend because those are the first pull attack. If SE would raise the enmity decently on those the hate would stay more on tanks.

Yes you are right gear does play a big factor, and with new players undergeared they will have trouble.

That is more often the fault of the new tank being in seriously outdated gear. Far to often I've seen new players in LQ gear 10 levels out of date when doing leveling roulette (and they won't even lot on upgrades sometimes). Tanks are the worst effected by being behind the gear curve.

Please remember that pre-3.2 Vit tanks needed 4 uses of Flash/Overpower/Unleash to generate as much enmity as 3 uses by a Str tank.
This doesn't make any sense at all.

Pre-3.2 the damage output of tanks was higher, so holding enmity was much easier. Before 30 for warriors was all about holding on to enmity with just raw damage and your combo. Citing that a vit paladin had to use extra flash over a strength paladin doesn't make any sense at all because flash doesn't do damage, it generates the same amount of enmity either way.

This reworking of the damage formula to include strength and vitality and then nerfing that total number to be less than the previous sum is affecting low levels a lot more than it is affecting the end level raids.
