OK, now that I've given myself a good day to digest it...

We seem to be taking proactive action against Sephirot. That's good. One of the main problems with "heroes" is that they just react to crises instead of trying to solve them or actively make the world a better place - we're finally going at it ourselves instead of waiting for it to reach crisis levels. That phase transition is epic, too.

The Feast, despite my disdain for PvP, looks somewhat interesting and exciting. Perhaps I'll give it ago... but probably not.

Finally got a good look at the Antitower. Gotta say, it fulfilled my expectations and then some; looks like a really eldritch place, something I've really been wanting in XIV for a while now. Figured the endboss would be Calcabrina after all the talk of mammets and such in there with it also being mentioned it would be a throwback boss.

    Hildibrand returns! That is all.

Alexander Midas looks pretty intense. There's a whole freakin' city in there! Aside from the techno vibe, reminds me of Aspio from Tales of Vesperia. They also have Voltron. Wonderful.

Aymeric continuing to try and reform Ishgard and end the war. Good, good, expected.

Fight scene with Raubahn amidst flames. Without context I can't really say what's going on, but I'd bet we're just sparring with him to reignite his flames or help him prove to himself that even down an arm he's still more than capable a fighter. It might end the career of any other fighter... but not Raubahn Aldynn, Flame General and Mad Bull of Ala Mhigo! It might have slowed him down, but Raubahn isn't the sort of person you can keep down.

Matoya: To win a war, you must be willing to do whatever it takes. To fight, to kill, and if necessary, to die.

Yeah, but those are supposed to be last resorts... ceasing hostilities takes precedence over winning, but as a last resort, perhaps. We fought and killed countless dragons and dragonkin on our journey. Even so, if there's a chance for peace, it has priority over outright victory... I know it's a one-way track, and I will bear the sin that others need not do so, but I will not accept "necessary sacrifices."

Everyone continues to feel the loss of Haurchefant. Thancred punching Emmanellain, probably to prevent him from doing something stupid.

Scene with the Warrior of Light in front of Hydaelyn, being told by Minfilia-Hydaelyn to "go forth and seek." Or perhaps Hydaelyn's telling both us and Minfilia that through Minfilia. But, what are we seeking...?!? Stupid deities and their cryptic bull[kupo]...

Not much else caught my eye, except for the Gnath quests. Interesting to see they take us out of the Forelands, where everything for the Vanu was in the Sea of Clouds.

I think the idea isn't that you want to allow 'necessary sacrifices' but that they maybe inevitable and in trying to avoid them you can risk failing in your goal. Using the Dragonsong war, Nidhogg is a necessary sacrifice. We have little option but to kill him. Its like saying, 'In trying to save everyone you can end up saving no one' or 'understand to achieve your goals you might need to pay a price'. Peace can only exist in Ishgard with victory in the Dragonsong war because Nidhogg isn't willing under any circumstances to consider peace as an option.

Also the English version doesn't really give much of a sense of it but some of those other localisations make it sound like this might be Hydaelyn's last message to us, at least for a long time. The German one almost sounded like she is begging. Very ominous. I wonder if we will see Hydaelyn bow out as a player in this patch. That would be huge.

That's how I see it. We do everything we can to prevent any loss, but some losses are unavoidable. I assume the dialouge is about us accept that, perhaps specifically with Haurchafant, and Icehearts deaths being referenced.

I still say there are problems with how FFXIV portrays sacrifice. Even if they do happen, it still falls on us to refuse to accept them as "necessary." FFXIV is way to keen on making "acceptance" a part of the grieving process, which isn't quite how that works. Understand that it happened, and that you can't change the past, but don't you dare try and say things have worked out for the best.

But that line in Japanese came across as much more snarkily critical, like she was saying what she knows war is, but tacking an "orly" on at the end. Because we all know by now that Matoya doesn't buy into heroic bullcrap.

Your have to remember that it's localized, not just translated. For example

Localization into language X we have "Not much time left. Please fetch my son."

Localization into language Y we have "Go fetch my son, I don't have much time left."

Both have the same meaning, but are structured different due to the language rules. Now let's say a sound clip only uses the first half of each. We have...

"Not much time left." In trailer X
    And
"Go fetch my son," In trailer Y

All of a sudden they don't seem to make sense when compared against eachother. That's the reason why it's better to wait until release before drawing conclusions. Clips tend to not tell the whole story :P

Is that really supposed to be the guy from tactics in the Hildabrand intro? This wasn't in the trailer but on one of the webpages showing off screen shots but is there really a Vivi doll or minion somewhere in 3.2?

The Vivi thing is part of the Hildibrand storyline (its one of the pictures in the Hildibrand section of the 3.2 site)

Considering translations, Koji Fox told that the French version is directly based of the Japanese version, and is more accurate (like the Coils of Bahamut which were named "Labyrinthe/Méndres/Abîmes de Bahamut" in the original and French version). So this language may be the more accurate.

Think their will be new themes for Alexander Midas? The Super Sentai part of the clip made it sound like there is.

If it follows the same general pattern as Coil it should be the same ole same ole "Seeking the peace of reason" (or whatever) for the beginning fights (A5-7? M1-3?) and a new (ish) track for the final fight (which should be the voltron)
