Because of the aforementioned intended design. It's not like players who signed up to be Paladins thought they'd be doing any less damage than their tank cousins Drk and War, but because of the heavy emphasis on high dps-checks it turned out that way. I think after the 3.2 patch a lot of Paladin players will let out a sigh of relief, because they've been pulling the tougher weights throughout the "era of strength tanks" that we're now putting behind us.

So, Pld would go from the least used/useful Tank int he game to the least used/useful Healer in the game? Or would Pld bump off one of the current healers and take their place ... Hmm ...
