I don't mind someone doing 700-800dps in a group, even in savage, you can technically 7man up to AS3 reasonably easily (relative to how hard the fight is with 8 people, doing it 7man isn't that much harder) so 7-800dps from one dps isn't too bad at all. I am upset at the people who do like 300-400 dps, who don't do positionals and follow no type of rotation at all, making up skill rotations as they go through the fight with no order. These are the people who need to be given some way to learn how to play their class better.

Maybe SE should simply release a dry, bland, 1-dimensional Microsoft Excel version of XIV for these folks with a hard-on for numbers and let the rest of us actually play the game.

Can you say "Mountain out of a molehill"?

I imagine the mindset is, and I main a whm, "I'm keeping you guys alive, so 20% damage loss isn't going to keep us from succeeding in a level 50 dungeon." Probably that. :/

Someone in another thread one day made a comparison about playing a soccer game , and the rest of your team completely disregarding the rules and starting to kick the ball into their own goal post while shouting "we play to have fun!". That's a great analogy when arguments like these are made. I guess we're not playing the game if we actually use our skills to their fullest potential, gee, who knew :/?

........You know I'm still wondering why people go to such extremes when one person doesn't use their full abilities while dpsing and somehow they're not following "rules". Last I checked, Dpsing of any kind mean your dpsing. Its not like they go into a dungeon without their soul stones and start casting cure, because that what it sounds like when people make up these analogies like the soccer one. These players really need to stop making their efficiency of playing "rules". They're not.

and then you wonder why the most potentially frustrating fights of this game are the ones where the devs give DPS players a shred of responsibility

Yeah. To keep on the soccer analogy, it would be more like one of your team mate puts on ski boots and goes playing with that. Sure he'll play too. But he'll be slower and most likely be a hindrance to everyone else in his team. The ski boots guy is the player refusing to use 3.0 skills because "why bother", or the Ice mage, or whatnot. A guy not playing like he should to be efficient.

    other analogies work too

I think there was someone either in this thread or another that suggested a window that pops up at the end of a dungeon/raid much like at the end of a PvP Match. It tells you how much dmg each person took, how much dmg each person did, how much dmg the healer healed and did, etc.

This way, you can see if the tank used cooldowns (his/her dmg taken should be fairly low).
You can see if the DPS pulled their weight by viewing the total dmg they dealt.
You can see if the healer did anything other than healing. If the tank did their job by popping (almost typed pooping) cooldowns, their dmg healed would be lower. Then see if their dmg done is respectable. If they didn't heal much, they may have had time to throw out a few Aeros or Stones at least.

Kinda like a parser, but the results are known to everybody at the end. Maybe SE can implement personal records for each category for each job in each dungeon. "Oh, I only took 100k dmg this run of x dungeon as tank, next time I'll shoot for only taking 95k dmg."
