Why are low standards for dps acceptable?

I've posted in this thread defending the BLM, in my mind I can see why a new BLM would struggle with the fire 4 rotation in the fight in question and I also know some BLM's ignore the 60 rotation when first getting to 60 in fights they don't know yet. It's not what I did but I do have some sympathy with their reasoning.
That said however I've just had a Nevereap run collapse because the BRD, with his 9.5k hp had a Novus weapon. The DRG "DC'd" on the first trash pack, his replacement took one look at the BRD and bailed, followed by the healer. The BRD's reasoning was that he'd returned to the game and hadn't geared up yet. Considering he could have gotten a much better weapon for 20k from a number of vendors on his way from 50-60 that's not good enough and I can understand why some get very frustrated with those kind of attitudes. Some people just really don't try and that's why these threads hit 80 pages.

In contrast to him, I wouldn't even go near 60 content on my PLD until I'd got ilvl 180+ with a 200 weapon, not because of the instance but because I knew I'd have to keep hate from ilvl 210's. I'm not saying be that anal but if people would meet me in the middle I'd be happy.

I am extremely curious about how long it took you to get to what you consider '60 content', given that you'd be stuck in ilevel 145 gear until you reached your goal.

There is flaw as egregious as that of your BRD when, in order to accomodate up to 3 over-geared players, it is you who have to perform above-and-beyond the designed ilevels for those instances.

The game does not require you to be in ilevel 180+ gear for any of the level 60 dungeon instances to date, nor Void Ark. Why should the onus be placed upon a properly geared tank to perform better than any tank did when the other players first went through those instances?

Did you read my post? Was it denying the validity of the other posters opinion about BRD using Novus? Was there a counter-argument about the BRD?

I'm a returning player myself, been back about 3 months now, I had my BLM to a respectable standard for a returning player in about a month I think, including leveling from 50-60 and completing the MSQ. I was an omnicrafter when I quit so I could use the AH to help out but the MSQ gives lots of gil if you include the gear it gives you. Some of those items sell for 120k+ on my server, more than enough to buy an upgrade for a ilvl110 weapon. If he was that broke he could have even used an Augmented Ironworks weapon, even that is ilvl 130 and very easy to get.
I funded my PLD through VA drops, law and Ex roulette drops with an eso weapon. I wouldn't expect a freash first time 60 to do that obviously but he could have at least had a level 60 weapon.

If I'm behind the curve though the onus is on me to make up the gap, especially for a tank. I would point out though I am very accomodating to new tanks personally, check my recent post history if you don't believe me. I'm also experienced enough however to avoid being massively outgeared by my group as a tank because I wouldn't enjoy perfoming sub par as a tank, personally.

I agree, it's for personal reasons I wanted to enjoy my tanking so I got to a level where I thought that would be possible regardless of what party I got in DF. I don't hold anyone else to the same standard but if they could at least have a level appropriate weapon that would be great. The person in question was not a green leaf, he had a Novus before he quit. He should have known better.

For a first time 60 with a tank class as their main it's a very difficult situation to be in, I wasn't in that situation so I could prepare accordingly.

Yup, the Bard should have known better.

Having tanked up to Garuda, I can understand the difficulties. It's one of the reasons I switched to Archer at level 42 -- I didn't feel I could prepare as well for what was coming up as a tank.

How long did it take you (the poster) to get geared for level 60 content without actually doing level 60 content? I'm interested.

BRD bad, but there is a flaw in the game that is just as bad if you need to be over-geared for first-time-through-instance to please players.

You not required to be in full Alexander Normal gear to run through level 60 instances, including Void Arc. Why should you be uncomfortable running instance as designed [at correct ilevel] to please over-geared players who also ran through this instance at correct ilevel "way back when"?
