    The arrogance of some people

    Sorry venting
Was on my healer doing my expert and roulette and this SMN kept saying I should dot or help dps
Now I'm fine with dpsing occasionally but that's not my job!
Dps was slacking already was a 40min run in Saint.
Granted I let the tank die once because I was typing to said group, but that's all.
This SMN said I wasn't even doing my job, but my job is to heal! If I wanted to dps i'll switch to a dps class.
Don't argue with someone just because they're healing and doing their job.
This dps also was ignoring mechanics from belladonna, not looking away from whatever that move is called.
Also he/she wasn't new had full 210 gear
    Edit:
Looks like people can't read and took this thread to a whole new level
I said I dps occasionally, if group is great you better believe i'm going to spam the f out of holy.
Said dps was slacking! So you guys expect a healer to dps when the dps want TO BE LAZY. F that if I get lazy dps you get a lazy healer.
I let the tank die because this SMN was arguing with me. So of course I take blme because I'm the healer
With dps ignoring mechanics kind of hard to dps as well! Especially if said dps was full 210

Healers are expected to toss some dots, sure if your slammed and have to heal back to back to keep the tank or dps up I understand, but I main AST and find time to still throw some dots up and cast my attack spells. Don't be lazy.

Excuse me it is not being lazy. I took healer to heal not DPS. If I wanted to DPS I would play a DPS class. If I keep everyone alive then I am doing my job.

Do you also expect the DPS to throw heals too? If no then why do you expect healers to DPS?

Yeah. Healers are expected to dps while healing, especially the case if someone in the party has full Eso gear because they will be used to a healer doing that in end game content. It's just the norm. I also expect it of myself, because I can clearly see the windows of time where I can fit it in, and enjoy the utility and challenge and helping to speed up the run. It is easier with a tank you know well and who knows you as the two of you will be in synnergy, but you can do it with strangers too - just be a little cautious at first until you see how they play and how they pull. You'll also get the odd group that is aghast that you dps, but that's far more rare than the ones that will be annoyed if you don't. Try it. It's actually fun. I would probably have bored of being a healer in this game if it wasn't for the added layer of stance dancing.

If your a summoner or blackmage and see the tank dropping and the healer struggling, then sure, why not? I do it all the time, may not be the MOST effective, but a little heals will assist in keeping that tank up.

Your mileage really varies. If the tank isn't dying and you're just standing around idling (and your fairy is usually more than enough to heal them through anyway), then you could stand to toss in a couple of DoTs and bane it. It's not something I'll call you out on, but it's something that I'll probably silently judge you about (especially if it's blatantly obviously that you're not doing anything at all if the fairy is fully capable).

Physic on a BLM/SMN is an absolute joke that you'll help more by continuing to dps the mobs/boss and making sure it dies faster. If the healer is struggling with keeping the tank up, there's bigger underlying issues and having side-heals won't really address it. The rare exceptions is when the healer is down and the tank is bursting all of his cooldowns, just so you can delay the fight a bit longer for a recoup or kill (the latter being more preferable that you'd dps, esp if the tank is living on borrowed time). That's not to say they shouldn't use E4E or virus on some circumstances, though.

The fact is I'll do it just not often. Not that I'm Lazy it's just I'm a healer. I heal things, not destroy them. If I throw a holy up means I got a great group that I can rely on without them dying. But if it's a mediocre group, sorry just healing.
Also HEALERS don't ask for dps to help heal so Dps shouldn't ask healers to dps because they're slacking

Actually yes, DPS are expected to use their self-heal abilities whenever possible. SMNs are expected to toss Eye for and Eye on the tank when it's up, and Raise in the event that the healer is too busy. In an absolute disaster case, a BLM probably has Physick cross classed.

I once healed the party's way through the 2nd boss of Qarn as a paladin, after the healer died. (I mean, it's not like that boss can actually be tanked.)

I can't stand healers who just stand there when the party is at full health and do nothing. Just stand there while they wait for HP to drop.

I play the 3 healers as my main classes and I wouldn't dream of doing that. I always DPS no matter how stressful it is.

Lets just put it like this, its the difference between an okay healer and a good healer. Your job is to keep the tank alive, if things die quicker cus of your help they take less damage.
