This op sounds like a spoiled brat. Alot of us would just like to be able to buy a house and then you got ppl like this who are worried about losing theres when they no longer feel like playing. Lets not forget the ppl who like their fc but are stuck having to buy a "room" in the fc.

I blame SE for the housing situation though. They chose this route and now they probably cant go back or start over.

In before RMT start buying the lots that become available and start selling them for real money.

Y'know, guys, there is a chap who did a far more relevant census for the game than SE did. His data was collected up until something like August 8th.
Just select whatever world from the world select menu near the top right of the UI. It may take a few seconds to flip. You'll know when you see a double green curved arrow pop up, that its changing.

Now while it may not tell you how many active subscribers there are in TOTAL per world, you can find out how many active level 51-59 players there were on each [in August] because this man has tabulated how many minions and MOUNTS players have collected. ie: Black bo, manacutter, and Midgardsormr mounts. Now we all know that no matter how many classes you level on your char, you only get these mounts ONCE due to msq.
I wish he'd do an update on this info.

That presumes that all active players are working through the HW MSQ, which excludes players who are new and haven't got there yet, or who are, for what ever personal reason, not advancing through the HW story yet.

Let's flip this turnways, shall we?

My experience with personal, "instanced" housing: Free Realms. They had an inside, outside, spacious yard, everything. But every exterior looked alike. Every view was the same. Sure, you could set your house to "public", but your instance was just one in a long, long, loooooooong list of identical instances.

Played for over a year. Wanna know how many people actually visited my open, public, instanced house?

    ZERO.

Are you sure you want to champion "instanced" housing? Because looking at the track record so far, it would be implemented in the most backwards, halfassed way possible.

In b4 NOT A "REAL" MMO, GTFO
Let me just make one thing clear here. I don't care about having a neighbourhood. Having strange people roam my yard annoys me and makes me lock the house. I wish I had an MB as a wallmount so I wouldn't have to go deal with people around me. But to each their own, this is just my opinion. I want my house to have peace because for me, playing an MMO does not mean I need to socialize every minute I am online.

Anyway, back to Rift. Not one of my favourite games but the housing was amazing. Don't compare it with WoW because I won't even say what I think of the creativity of most WoW players here. I prefer not to get banned for voicing my opinion.

In Rift, many people actually bothered to personalize their Instance. Me and my OH have visited several instances and none looked alike. There was even a social system to the Instances as you could vote for them and make them popular. Want you Instance to be seen? Advertise it. Just because people don't bother in one game doesn't mean they are like that in another. Please do some research about target groups of certain games. And just because WoW has a lot of players (though it seems to be dying now), doesn't mean it was a good game. Just means it was simple enough for people to stay.

Back to Rift, let me show you some more examples and tell me if they look alike. If you want to see more, check the google search:

In Rift? A lot. People can visit dimensions and vote on them... sorta like thumbs up on a message board. Well designed dimensions become quite popular and are very populated. There are dimensions in Rift that have more players running around in them than many wards in FFXIV.

Know what made housing in this game less attractive to me? The fact that no houses are available.

I'd like to see the OP answer this guy. Because honestly, there are many reasons to love FFXIV. The housing system is not one of them. So many other MMOs do housing much better. Rift, Wildstar, LOTRO, EQ2, Ultima Online, just to name a few. Star Wars Galaxies had probably the greatest housing system ever... too bad it doesn't exist anymore.

You seem to have skipped over a lot of what I said?

Also, in order to get the Middy mount you have to be level 59, so its a pretty safe bet all those who own it got to 60 after that was posted in August.

They can even make 5 man playable dungeons in them now.

Math is not your forte friend. 2 months ago FFXIV had over 3 million active, and not sure if it's still there or not. But let's cut it at 3 million active. At 3 million active, even if the game cost $1 a sub, they would still be making millions, but we know subs cost anywhere from $13 to $15, and then add the cost of $2 for each extra retainer. And on top of that you have to add the cost of CS items. SE is making around $45,000,000 to $50,000,000 a month on this game, give or take, and that's not including CS items since those are not monthly costs. Of course you have to take away costs that SE has to pay for various things, but you would still be left with well over $30,000,000.

I don't get why people are saying "there's a better Housing system elsewhere!". Yeah, so what? There are tons of games doing a better job at something than others... You say it like it never happened or something. Are you sure you already played video games before or what?

Nobody said that the current housing system in FFXIV was perfect, far from it actually. Don't think that the people in favor of this new reclaim system are also completly in love with the complete package... that would be making completly wrong assumptions. Everything's not black or white.

Also, quite a lot of people like the neighborhood concept... some people don't, but at this point it's not relevant to the actual subject since it's just a matter of very subjective opinions. So, please, stop trying to convince other people that what you like is better than what they like.

Besides, no, Housing isn't the "future of this game", as I could read being implied. That's silly. Stop making these kind of statements, it's going nowhere.
