Got some thoughts on the Ascians and Minfillia myself. Considering that the WoL is reaching the point where even the Ascians are starting to fear him and even make a Warrior of Darkness to counter him, I can see a sort of push to try to and use hosts that are either sturdier spiritually or have something they can use. Minfillia, while weak, has both the echo and a connection to the mother crystal.

After all, if darkness can't beat the light, then use light against it. Hell, maybe even corrupt it to serve as a hard counter? Said Ascian/Minfillia would make a good companion for the Warrior of Darkness along with Ilberd.

Makes sense though. Aside from the crystal, the WoL gets stronger by the people supporting him. If some guy manages to fight back the Imperials with the help of a ala megian and the (possessed) head of the scions, those enslaved by the Imps and the refugees who fled Ala Mhigo would consider the man a savior and start wondering about the WoL and the Alliance. After all, the alliance has done nothing for 15 years and even helped the isolated Ishgard first. The refugees are treated poorly, and both sides know this. If the WoL can beat so many primals, the Ultima weapon, and entire legions, then the legion in Ala Mhigo would be a snap, right?

Honestly I don't think they should be doing anything to make Minfilia less popular. She is already many peoples least favourite Scion. Making her need rescuing again or putting her in the role of villain, even if it is from possession, is likely to make people like her even less.

Plus we have the whole thing with Estinien being possessed at the moment so I personally wouldn't want to see the 'friend possessed by the bad guy thing overused'. We have already had it twice.

Personally, I'd like to see Minfilia come back as a Dark Knight. If she really does have the emotional problems she says she does after Moenbryda's death, combined with her backstory, having her be possessed or on the verge of being possessed by her Dark Side would be an interesting way to reintroduce her to the story.

(Though I also admit I'm pretty biased in that regard...)

Otherwise yeah, the possession angle is getting just a little old.

Honestly while she certainly has enough dark stuff in her past to fit that qualification for Dark Knight, I actually would prefer to see her remain non combatant but more active and proactive. I actually wouldn't be surprised if we see her in the future somehow involved with the Ala Mhigan Resistance. After all her father was a double agent for them. Maybe she might shed her false identity and go back to being Ascilia.

I don't know. I just don't think all the supporters of the Warrior of Light need to be fighters. There are other ways to be useful and badass.

I'm not saying they need to be, but my problem with Minfilia is that she just stands around in her room +90% of the time while we're out bleeding and sweating for the realm, then has the nerve to tell us how stressed out she is. Like, seriously Minfilia, if you were actually trying to make a difference...

Summarily, I don't mind if characters aren't combatants. Tataru really endeared herself to me in 3.0 with her resourcefulness. But all Minfilia ever does (that we see, at least) is stand in the Solar and give orders... then whine about how stressful her job is. I understand that she's stressed over possibly sending us to our death countless times, but... c'mon Minfilia, if you don't want to send us into an uncertain battle then get some training yourself. My problem isn't that she's incapable of fighting... well, that's not exactly true, because she is, she just makes no effort to do so. She seems content to stand in the Solar and give orders, which... isn't difficult at all.

But she has a complicated and dark backstory, and bringing her real suffering and stress to the surface is just a good way to show her true self instead of the iron-masked, distant executive she plays in the story. Good catalyst for character development, too.
