Sorry to hear that! We personally had the same result last night, we had sent out to only sector 5 to try to discover 7 but were unsuccessful. We got a substandard rating which I think I’ve seen other people get AND still discover areas. Upon closer review the line about violent turbulence says “Airship surveillance levels unaffected, but EXPLORATORY CAPABILITIES may be significantly hindered.” so maybe that has something to do with it. We sent it back out on the route to 5 -> 6 so I'll know some more this evening. We haven't been able to complete our invincible forecastle yet but I'm thinking that we might need to lean hard on it and get it done just to advance :-/ Banzai, we may have found one of the wallsBad news...
Ship returned from 6->5->2 with A rating and bonus in every sector(6 =150%, 5= 50%,2 = 100%) but neighter 11 or 7 was found. :/
Sector 5 where i expected a discovery, got bonus but rating was abysmal with replacement of parts recommended message...
So the "You need bonus to find new sectors" theorie seems to be busted... or there are other requirements, like minimum ship level/grade of parts, too.
I started a new try with full invincible build to see if there is a different result. Will keep updating with findings.
Looking at the spreadsheet, it appears that all entries that have found new sectors (so far) have mostly had satisfactory end results(except possibly line 5) from the Sector of interest AND have seen violent and high winds, with high winds being the 2nd entry before discovery of the new sector, so perhaps slight hindrance still allows for discovery of new sectors while significant hindrance does not?
Thanks for the numbers, I’ve edited it now! The airship builder portion of the sheet is now complete!
Strange bug, have you gone back and checked the log again? Can you take a screenshot of the log AND the airship map?
The spreadsheet is designed to automatically compile the items list vs the sectors based off the master log, so if you have the entry and it’s put over into the master log, it’ll show up on the items.
Thank you!![]()

That trip of mine to sector 05, unlocking 06, is really working against the turbulence theory. I had violent turbulence, but still found 06 on my first attempt.Sorry to hear that! What I think will really help crack the unlock conditions is to include a new column in the spreadsheet where people can list what sectors they have already discovered. Just don't list 01 and 02 - we start with those unlocked, so those aren't interesting. (Err, you do start with 02 unlocked, right? <_< I didn't send our ship out the first time, so I just realized I'm not actually sure about that!) Please either fill this new column out completely or leave it blank - don't put in some sectors but not others, it'll skew the data. With this extra information, we should be able to tell if RNG is involved, or if it's just a function of surveillance, rating, and/or wind.

I'm thinking that you found it on the 2nd attempt in that sector. You had violent wind for the first try but then only had high wind for the 2nd item and you ended the sector with a satisfactory rating. It's only a theory of course so if we find some good data against it, I'm all for scratching it off the list. (I'm assuming we're both talking about line 37 of the master log). Let me know if I'm wrong on that assumption. That trip of mine to sector 05, unlocking 06, is really working against the turbulence theory. I'll add the sectors we have unlocked to the sheet![]()

Having some way to know which reports had the potential to unlock a sector is important, but I'm wondering if listing all previously unlocked sectors will get a tad unwieldy (especially as we unlock more sectors). I've been trying to indicate in my own reports which trips actually had a potential to unlock a sector.
It might also be inferred using the name of the ship, if they've kept a steady log and reported their sectors previously unlocked. I suppose we could just include the steady reporters in the sector unlock analysis. But you are the spreadsheet wizard, this is your call!

Well I've been able to reproduce the bug that someone reported where the name of the sector discovered is one thing before finalizing the report and another thing after finalizing
Before:
After:
It is worth noting that it IS possible to unlock sector 05 from this sector (02), it just didn't happen on this trip! I'm starting to think the Mammet isn't qualified to be writing these reports![]()

Now to see if the SE staffers are reading our guide/forums XD
Of note, you discovered a new sector with a substandard rating. What was the wind JUST before it?
This might be a good time to mention best practice to screen capture logs on the front of the guide...

We actually hit violent turbulence on our first node and had insufficient airship condition to get the second. What would you consider best practice?
