Rage is a commonly misapplied term. Very easy to sling about, and so commonly done it's become more or less meaningless to do so. "You are emotional, therefore I win." Not that easy, I'm afraid, even when it is true. But on to my point: It's explicitly stated that adding more materia = higher chance of failure, and failure = total loss of everything you put in to it. This is what I am "raging" about.

it came from you stating "The crafters win, and we don't get to play a guessing-game with our wallets and with our expectations. "

the moment someone says starts talking about one side "winning" usualy shows theres some bias in there and that they dont want them to win

First off, you really need to tone down the attitude. You want to try and sound like a smart ass and define raging like I used to say "I win" when in reality I'm just trying to understand what you're so upset about. As it stands, when you're being a passive aggressive jerk in every other post you -are- raging, whether you think you are or not.

The concern about losing hard work is a viable one, but frankly, its no different than the concern people have to deal with when they accumulate a mass group to hunt down a Notorious Monster with less than a 100% chance of dropping what they want -- especially when there's more than one person in the group who wants it.

Its a basic risk-reward principle, and while I don't agree with taking away the gear itself, i see nothing wrong with a system that would strip some of, or all of, the materia on a piece of gear when you're pushing it to its upper limits of efficiency. If you want the biscuit, you've got to risk it.

As it stands, I think the gear itself shouldn't be at risk if it is Rare/EX (or whatever the FFXIV equivalent is) -- those pieces should be protected from being completely destroyed, but run of the mill gear that can be crafted more or less easily? Yeah, let it self-destruct. One tenant of the 5 Slot augment is that you be high enough to craft that piece yourself -- so you're just out a bit of cash -- at best.

Like I said, Rare/EX and special HQ gear should be protected, but everything else -- including previously installed materia and entire pieces of normal quality gear SHOULD be able to go up in the smoke. And the balance of that should be that materia is strong enough to make that gear as good as unaugmented NM drops.
