you can only blame the fact people think this way on min/max guilds in other games, that many players have had to put up with for who knows how long.
we even got a few of those shells floating around here already(several of which promote botting/exploiting to get away with it too, not naming names, but they do exist)

I think all in all its a more or less commendable addition to the game. Its just a matter of how SE balances the bonuses. I'm hoping for a scale like this:

    <--[NH0]--[NH1]--[NH2]--[NM0][NH3]--[NM1]--[NH4]--[NM2]--[NH5]--[NM3]--[NM4]--[NM5]

NH = Normal Quality and High Quality, paired because they should always be within a 3~10% range of each other
NM = Notorious Monster / Special Gear
    # = Number of Augments.

This is assuming all of the pieces in question are the same level.

Oh I'm sure, and yeah I've seen that in other games too. I tend to steer clear of these kinds of players though, part of the reason I mainly play with my Linkshell as they're a laid-back/non-elitist group.

I think that would be fine considering what's a stake if you fail. Though at this point we don't know what gear is restricted to no materia slots/conversion.

    Yeah.

Its a good time to invest in your primary job and the crafts that will support it. Mages are going to need Weaver/Woodworker, Melees are going to need Blacksmith/Armorer, those who want to make money are going to want Goldsmith (wow, these guys are going to rack it in...)

My only problem is, I'm still seeing a divide and drop in financial opportunities for Culinarians and Alchemists.

alchemists didnt really make but 2-3 peices of gear to begin with and those recipes are probly being taken away from them, thats why i think they are being excluded
they couldnt really do anything with the materia system anyway
and cooks didnt make anything to begin with so again, this system didnt affect them

it goes along the same lines as a pure combat class being excluded from slotting the gear tbh

    Materia system should be interesting
They really didn't explain one part which I was wondering about
If making materia from a gear/weapon with materia already attached would the end result be still be same as the same gear without materia? or since we have this new info would it increase the chance of giving the higher end materia.

Don't think reps answered that one yet, I know you can make the gear/weapon with materia into materia but no info on if materia is going to be exact same or better/worse.

They get consumables, there will be a market for it once the stats revamp is done and the food revamp is done as well. Potions/elixirs should also be adjusted to be useful, and there will be the upcoming pheonix downs and such.

Since those crafts makes consumables that are always needed, they will have their fair share of the pie.

It will be nice if they fix food effects for this update. Alchemists should see shards moving again after the update. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
