    @ Verence

I hate to be negative about something that hasn't been released yet, but I tend to agree. Of course, I'll acknowledge that this is entirely subject to our guess at the success rate of adding materia slots 2 to 5.

Players won't settle for 1 materia as it will appear like their gear (and character) are then not maximized. I envision a player getting the 5 pieces of materia (and the associated gear they want to modify) and just going straight to adding them all. If it fails, they start again. Repeat until they succeed and have an "optimal" piece of gear.

I'm going to withhold full judgement until the system is released, obviously. But I'm fairly skeptical and not overly happy with the implementation.

I think the point you're missing Verence is that slotting more materia is completely optional. If you want to take the safe route then slot one, maybe two materia. If you want to gamble on that truly amazing piece of gear, go for all five. I don't think most people are going to fault someone for not having five materia slotted in all their endgame equipment.

There are people who are okay with a little enhancement, people like me who don't care about HQ stuff as it is these days.

Then there are people who are obsessed with having THE best gear ever. Those will be the ones gambling for that five-slotted gear.

My question would be how are these going to show in the wards search? right now its hard enough to find the +1/2/3 you need of an item but now if every item can have over 10,000+ different combinations of materia on them its going to be a near impossibility to find what you want.
This is an excellent point and one that needs to be adressed!

This time it was indeed a dream, I think lol. I believe they said that we will be able to sell gears with materia on them.

I personally think that Rare/EX drops will not have materia slotting, nor will be able to form into materia.

    That's my impression as well.

Well I hope you're right tbh, would be cool (although extremely expensive) to see 5 slot gear on the market wards etc.

My guess is Rare/Ex items, like something gotten from a high ranked NM or end game content. Say, relic weapons or AF armor if you played FFXI.

Yeah I just hope now that JSE (job specific equipment like AFs) will be craftable gears so we can enhance them with materias.

If I understand this correctly, you can basically use a beneficial item to 100% bond, convert it to Materia, then attach that materia to a new item for similar effect.

Let's look at this using FFXI items:

Would it be possible to create, for example, a staff bonded with Materia made out of Elemental staves ? So instead of having to have one staff for each element to deal high damage, you could have 2? (each with 3 nonconflicting elements)

If so, that's effectively the greatest thing I've EVER heard.

Its easy for them to control, but versatile enough for the players to get REAL beneficial use out of it. (In the previous example, you still have to own all of the staves, but you forgo the hassle of having to lug them all around and can add the effects to staves that are more level appropriate rather than using ones half your level, as elemental staves are @99 in FFXI)

I'm excited, here's hoping SE doesn't scare themselves into ruining this. (Even if they made it so you had to use multiples of a material to get the full effect of the original item this would be great -- as long as Materia can stack.)
