Mod asked us to stop over reacting and wait for more info. SE also revealed that you can switch specializations over time, and you can have more than one. Multiple interviews have talked about the depth of the new crafting system and all the cool things they are adding. There are things added for people who only craft, as well as things for people who craft occasionally. 3.0 is going to rock for crafters.

Everyone needs to start getting hyped. 0 fears!

It's hard to get hyped when they locking you out of being an omni crafter. How is this better when all the people that worked hard to get there crafts up to snuff get spit in the face by being locked out of crafting recipes. The current system is working fine.

I dunno, the ability to "switch" is not a cure all for the restriction.

If I start off as a GSM specialist and I happen to get deep into the accessory market and a friend asks you to make a LTW item, what can I do other than to say

    1. Oh I can't make it, I'm a GSM specialist sorry.
    2. I could decided to leave the market board for a day? perhaps two? and tell my friend, I need to switch over to LTW guild and get ranked up or whatever it is that gets me to the top tier recipes, so give me a few hours and I can craft ya some LTW stuff?

Neither are really appealing to me.
perhaps I can get away with 2 characters in this case, first one for primarily making money and second one for on the fly(*) crafting for whatever's needed within the FC.

*Even that part of it is questioned when time restriction is brought into play, so maybe I'll need a third and a fourth one, who knows.

Maybe just hold off on all the speculative whinery until we know all the details as you are making so many assumptions on what "switching" will entail that it's almost laughable.

I didn't say the World would come crashing down because of it.. But I do rather enjoy the convenience in being able to AND knowing, that I can indeed craft whatever I wish to or need. That's one of the biggest reasons I pushed crafting this far in this game.

As someone who plays the game almost exclusively as a crafter, that means a great deal to me.
If you like to take the more casual approach to crafting, more power to ya, but that's not how I play the game.

I am not whining, in fact, I already know what I'm going to do to circumvent the limitations of "specialization". I already have 3 characters with crafting due to the desynthesis limit. They're not fully leveled up but if anybody has the resources and time to do it, a full time crafter such as myself would since I have a lot more time to focus on it rather than having to worry about raids, relic grind, loots, or whatever. I can already make my own leve turn-ins and have most of the mats stockpiled.

So now I ask you this, if the specialization is introduced, do you think I will suffer more or less than the casual crafters?

Also, it sounds like the specialization may be offered as a means to offer near BiS gear to crafters so we can make more useful combat gears and specialization is to restrict one person to access all of the gear at once..
That's taken from "It's probably terrible balance-wise to have dungeon drops always be the strongest so we're trying to change that." on the reddit post.

Do you really want people like me, who does nothing but craft most of the time to have a full set of BiS combat gear couple weeks after the expansion hits?

The only thing that the specialization limit will do is to make the pool of end-game crafters even smaller than it currently is.
Look at the prices of stuff on MB already, look at the wealth disparity between crafters vs. non-crafters.

On Jenova, there's a cohort of end-game crafters that work together to set the prices on MB. It's working to a degree but not too well because there are numerous crafters on the fringe and they simply can't get everyone in on it, the pie's not big enough. This is only possible because any crafter can jump in without having to be a specialist. i.e. if the group I was talking about decided to set their artisan off hand tools to a price of 7m. (It's already 4-5m which to me, is outrageous with 2m mat cost) I have enough of an incentive to jump in and compete for the profit which drives the prices down. If there's a specialist system in place, I wouldn't be able to unless I was of the correct class.

In fact, that's kind of already what's happened with Alchemist and Culinarian 4 star recipes.
Because most crafters don't decide to get their lucis with ALC or CUL, prices on those items are a lot higher. It will, however; be fixed by the players if the prices are TOO high, then more people will jump in the market to have a share of the profit.

P.S. I am not disagreeing with SE's design philosophy.. They talk about needing to have more casual approach to crafting so more people jump in the crafting scene. I am all for the idea, I think that's the only way that we'll get to see more reasonable prices on the MB, but introducing a "specialist" system will only do the opposite and create an environment where a casual crafter simply will not be able to compete in.

Thanks, Sibyll. I felt like I was losing my mind.

Everyone who works on this game loves this game. They have always treated their fans with respect and dedication. We are going to be able to build a fleet of airships that go on ventures! That is awesome! The crafting system is amazing amounts of fun. And the guys who made this awesome system are like, "We've got something even better coming out soon." And instead of, Oh I can't wait to hear more. People are like, "I know what this awesome thing is, you gave me delicious crafting cake last year, this year it's a spit ball to the face!" Why do you think that, Ranzan?

You can't treat me nothing but right for a year, and then lose me overnight. SE & Yoshi have built up some credit in the trust department. Any system they come at me with, I'm going to give it a thorough play-test before I decide I don't like it.

This specialist system from the details we do have will not be a good thing for omni crafter because this system promotes lock outs and pigeonholing people to specific crafts. I don't know about you but I thought the main selling point of this game was one character can do ALL?

Even in that interview he contradicted himself by saying crafting was too "hardcore" but introduce a new system that promotes even more "hardcore" crafting. Now to craft anything at anytime you have to have alts because now one character can NOT do all.

regardless of any changes ever made to the crafting system it will always be boring and useless. crafting and gil are for glamour; for those playing dress-up with their virtual dolls. because of RMT we will never see meaningful armor or weapons being produced through crafting.
