    After reading all the posts I believe Gillionaire has the most valid posts. I sometimes joke to my fc that this is the gathering/crafting game to me as I spend bout 80 to 90% doing just that. I don't dungeon that much compared to crafting. Now if SE goes and messes up the crafting system i'll have to seriously consider cancelling my subscription.. To me it would be that much of a deal breaker if I can't make whatever I wanted/needed.. when I want with the skills that I have grinded and earned. I was a high end gsm in ff11 and it took forever to get near 100 lol Don't punish dedicated crafters in this game SE.. I liked the comment about introducing gear that would lean a craft towards making it "specialized" ie. fish recipes +2.. it could have potential..

    Indeed. If FF14 is to start moving towards a restrictive system like that, it's better to get it out of the way now and just completely give up on the armory system, level alts just like any other MMORPG.

    What does "various specializations"? Why is it not "all specializations"? It points to a system similar to desynthesis where we will be locked out of most specializations, only being able to have "more than two" but "far less than 8".

    Please would the devs understand that people who are worrying about this lock-out isn't just anticipating and guessing; we are afraid. Afraid that one of the key selling points, a core promise that drew us to FF14 is again getting dumped out.

    Please don't lock people out and force people to choose only some of the specializations!

    The problem is the leveling process, or rather the progression of a character, gets extremely monotonous with a game like this. I'm talking about the main story scenario. When it comes to making a new character and leveling it from scratch, it feels very monotonous to me; something that shouldn't happen in an MMO genre espesically for leveling. I can't go out of my way to level via side quests because content and end game is still locked behind the main scenario.

    We don't know that it is restrictive.

    We know nothing but a word. One word. Everything else is speculation. Some of the speculation so far:

    We will only be able to hit 60 in X many crafts

    We will specialize within a craft. Example somewhere in the thread was fish for cooking. Another would be gem cutting for Goldsmith.

    I don't remember any other ideas on how specialization might work.

    How about coming up with a few more?

    Unless SE either scraps the idea altogether or decides to give us a specialization regarding increased yields (i.e. Alchemy potion specialist will have x5 potions instead of x3 per craft etc.) any "specialization" will be restrictive.

    Something as harmless as above example will still push you out of the potion market because you won't be able to compete in price.
    But, to be frank, that kind of specialization isn't something I'm completely against, as long as I can make the stuff albeit at a slight handicap. That's the key word "slight" handicap is acceptable imo, it will be a hard thing to balance though.

    All i'm hoping for is a market board not controlled by one person with a million alts coz that person have all crafts to 60's. Some people here who are in a mid-pop server can say whatever but if you are in a high pop servers, the MB is mostly being monopolized and manipulated with unsteady crazy prices. I've played FFXI and having specializations does put a "lockout" but I see that as a balance/focus to prevent some people from monopolizing the MB. If you don't put some "restrictions" in crafting, then players who are rich will become richer and players who are poor will be more poorer; and that in itself creates problem coz they are forced to buy gils with the RMTs which will therefore affect the MB.

    What's to stop this hypothetical person from having each alt become a "specialist" in different things, effectively retaining control of the MB?

    A second account IS the main way I was thinking about for getting around that particular restriction, yes. The other alternative would be to form a FC and have one of the other founders invite your alts on that account to it, then leave, giving you sole access/control of the FC chest.
