If I accidently grab one (not run ahead and pull, if I somehow get agro on a single in a pack we currently fighting) I'll hover close to the tank. Easy if melee I'm already there. Then I will attack something else. Gives the tank an easier time getting agro back if I'm not continuously wailing away at it. Unless, it is a squishy or otherwise fairly close to dead. Then I'll huff and puff and flail and wail until I can't flail and wail anymore and it is dead. Usually that doesn't happen, I attack first what the tank pulls first, or marks, but, eh, stuff happens.

It's not about pulling a certain amount of mobs or getting through in X amount of time, its about improving oneself and the synergy of ones group to beat it faster than the last time you did it, with whatever gear you have currently. Even if you gate all the packs, and force CC, you can still clear faster by working on improving your methods, your rotation, your group, your gear.
Its practice, and working towards improving yourself. You can even do it in pugs, by thinking what can you do to reduce the time with whatever random team members you get with whatever random skill/gear levels they have.

If you aren't trying to push yourself, the game has literately zero challenge, you make the challenge by doing it as fast as you can.

But I guess some people are ok with half afk no challenge ezmode giv loot please. To me you couldn't be lazier.
    Love it. Well written!

As a healer I don't see anything wrong with it. It keeps you on your toes. It's more or less a difference between spamming cure every time its up and using cure every 10 seconds over a longer period of time.

How to piss off a healer by having them do their job? That's like a DPS complaining about DPS checks. SR teaches you more about how to use your character than regular runs. In fact, regular runs doesn't teach you anything other than how to casually do your job with one hand while alt tabbing out every now and then to look at pictures of cats. As a WHM all I need to do is Divine Seal -> Regen and that's good for the next 20 seconds before I need to cast Regen again then it's back to my cats.

    3. SR does not teach a player anything, but how to piss off a healer... You cant tell me SR teaches you anything that would be remotely useful for coils.
You're terribad or do not know what you are talking about. My FC SR group the Whm spams Holy in cleric stance. I dodge telegraphs like a boss and have an acute sense of CD timing; bottom line- I self heal; More mobs, better self heal. Back in BrayHM myth grind, we used to run 2 whms for the "Holy Bomb" Overpower, 2xHoly, Fire 2 spam Flare. done

    1. Speed running requires alot less from a tank other than spamming the their AoE/Cone high enmity attacks/skills, excessive movement (mostly due to not being able to see telegraphs with all the graphics from BLM Fire spam among other attacks) and the occasional popping of CD's to make the team think you know what you are doing with holding hate and mitigating damage.
You either haven't tanked properly before, or have never held said position if you really think that's our job. Stick to your cookie-cutter healing tactics and let the real "think outside the box" players like us Speed Runners break barriers and perform feats outside the gaming norm, bc that's really what a speed run boils down to.

I have no issues with speed pulls, IF the tank can actually keep agro.
Soooo many tanks think they are op or whatever because hey they are ilv130 so that's automatically good for speed pulls right?
Which btw those such players probably got geared up from doing hunts and have not actually learned how to play their class.
To the tanks that can keep agro though, i applaud them and it sure saves time and makes up for the 30+ minutes i usually wait in queue for.

You're welcome. Main tanking FFXIV content since 2013. #Warrior4Life. I feel for you all when wannabe tanks are your df partners. Tanking 101; face mobs away from party. Aggro control trumps all. Once you have hate management and damage mitigation to a science, then focus on how you can increase your dps to help the party.

Speed run tanking 101. Tell party to chill until position is attained. Featherfoot>Foresight and pull all mobs to gate. Face all trash away from party, positon all trash within AOE ranges, Thrill of Battle>Convalescence>Infuriate>Overpower to hold hate>Bloodbath>Internal Release>Berserk>Overpower spam for self heal, huge aoe damage(I crit for 500 average per mob at 25% heal- more mobs more HP healed)>Vengeance to keep stacks and nullify 30% of incoming damage>Overpower until you run out of tp, by then featherfoot and foresight are back up, pop them and let the dps finish the pack. Save Second Wind and Holmgang in the slight chance shit hits said fan.

I'll let a propally fill in their rotation.

Personally, I found my challenges and really pushed myself to learn what I'm capable of in Coil, and I truly love it. (Had I not decided to skip the relic and at least TRY raiding, I might never have grown at all). That's not to say I can't learn anything in dungeons, but I will say your "half afk no challenge ezmode" bit is kinda how speedruns end up feeling to me. To me, personally. As far as I'm concerned, I'm alone in that opinion, and ok with it.
