Why Speed Pulls?

Seriously is like 90% of the game's player base in a hurry? I queue for dungeons as tank and I more often get groups who pressure me to pull the entire instance in 1 pull. It's annoying, I am not a hurry, why is everyone in a hurry? and most of all why should I comply?

Edit: Guys if I was looking for a solution I would have stopped at the first response because it was a solution in itself. However I don't completely agree with it and anyway I already stated my own solutions for dealing with the problem. I'm simply trying to get what is on your mind on paper, I wouldn't follow up with questions and comparing your opinions with mine if I didn't. Take this as you will.

Don't, if you don't want to speed run, as a tank you don't have to. You are the one that sets the pace of the duty, if rest of party doesn't like it, they can leave. If anyone tries to pull extra packs into your pull, let them tank it. This is a game, play it the way YOU enjoy it, and don't let others dictate how you play.

That can really mess up more, effectively delaying the clear with a wipe more than a 2-pull would have cost.
Or you decide as tank to pick them up and being not the a*hole the others are, and be the smarter one of the four-in-misery.

Unfortunately, it´s just natural behavior, encouraged by the game design. Most Content is not designed to be fresh long time, and many stuff like the Relic Quest forces you in old content often! [0]
So most people you encounter in DF/Roulette are there for a quick bonus.

I think, the way to enjoy this game for you would be get a FC, get a bunch of peoples you like to play and joke around in voice-chat, and do your dungeons at the way you want. fortunately, you can do High/Expert on full pre-mades.

[0] doing my second relic, visiting much old dungeons once for animus stage, and again for final stage... (accepted quest beforehand and hope some Animus Dungeons will drop their item as well).

This whole "the tank decides anything" is complete bs! He's a party member like everyone else, period. If everyone in the party agrees on a speedrun and the tank refuses just 'because he can', he's a fuckin' douche. It's an mmo, it's not about doing what you like, it's being able to adapt to what the general agreement of the party is or gtfo.

Sorry for the harsh words but I'm so tired of all this 'the tank dictates' stuff. He already has the easiest job in endgame, no reason to be a diva about dungeons just because holding hate on 10+ mobs is lolhard.

Running dungeons is boring as fuck, we do it because we have to for poetics/zodiac items/whatever, not because they're fun, challenging content (well, at least after we've seen them for the first couple times). There's no reason to not get out of them asap.

Every time I enter an instance I always ask what the party wants to do. If any one is leveling, pull one or more mobs, full clear etc.. Very few does anyone say full clear. Alot just don't say anything. But out of people who do respond, the majority of answers is "you're the tank its up to you". Maybe people just don't like to make decisions, thus why they don't tank. The majority of the people though seem to want to leave it up to me.

well the party can also choose to kick you for being uncooperative

maybe it is just an anecdote but any problem i have ever had in a dungeon that was so bad that i wanted to criticize another player was of my own design. but ffxiv is an mmo, running dungeons is not hard. don't be afraid of failure to try something different. if there is something you know you cannot do but the group does wants to do it anyway, just be humble and say you are not good enough at your job to do what they are asking - that things will go better if they take them a little bit slower.

Of course it's very rude for dps to pull extra packs, but to tell the tank that the dps should just tank it... The healer always gets the shaft in these situations. So really the tank should get hate and just deal with it for the healers sake.

You can play the way you want, no harm there, just be ready to expect other people to, at the very least, want to play how they want too, thats all thats happening. Different ideals. You want to go slowly, they want to go faster. You're both within your rights to want either or.

However I will agree, as a tank, you set the pace for a fight in this situation. Just don't be confused when people want to play differently than you. Its a game with millions of people from around the world, common logic dictates some of them won't be like you, and that yes, assholes exist. It doesn't give them the right to be jerks, I'm just saying... jerks exist. Welcome to the reality of life.

But in the end, you play how you're comfortable playing. But i at the very least do recommend if you have BLMs or SMNs, try to get at least 4 targets, as with SMN thats most efficient due to Banes effect.

I'm preferable to speedier runs, but I do like how Experts are right now with walls to be perfectly honest... I hate gigantic pulls on SMN cause all I can really do to spread DoT is Miasma II and Shadowflare... then its Blizzard II spam ._.

I disagree, if they wanted to speed run they should just run with a tank they know or queue as tank. I queued as tank to get my pace? Then they should too. Fairs fair.

I don't like it when tanks speed runs when I heal, yet I don't complain and go with it.
