You are meant to wipe and practice and learn the mechanics, all of them, and you are meant to learn to coordinate with ALL of your party members. (That includes all 7 other party members not just yourself!) If you want the story behind Coil you need to get out of the DF dungeon mindset that SE burned into your head with all these silly easy dungeons. Final Coil is hard, First and Second however, are not.
The problem is that having to wipe repeatedly to practice the fights means that people will unavoidably rage quit or call a vote to abandon. This makes it futile to even try since you're not going to accomplish anything either way. This is why Crystal Tower is much more fun because there's a much lower chance of the entire run being rage quit by majority vote.
