I'm paraphrasing your post, but it does not alter the meaning.

They only hurt themselves by discouraging players to search for the mobs by ensuring it takes ever longer to find the mob...

I agree with you, however I feel that the majority of people will react in this manner;

"I don't believe it. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it."

...and then many will add "Kill the heretic!", since you want to infringe on their 'right' to leech.
