It makes sense that they won't be able to channel its energy in the heat of battle due to how powerful it is; haven't you seen movies like LoTR and other fantasy books/movies? The wizards and sorcerers who use healing magic participate in battle but they heal outside the battle too.
It is the only ability/spell in the game that cannot be used by its main job/class in battle. That is a design flaw.
