I knew they would go after dex acc since BRD was the only one that didn't share with anyone else and they used MNK armor because it just makes sense visually. A ninja with Amon's hat would look ridiculous or hell, every BRD armor really.

What makes even less sense is that Monk is now in gear competition with not only Ninja for no reason(They not even gonna need the same stats) but STILL LNC/DRG.. AND WAR just to be a dick sometimes..
While Bard is free to do roll what he/she pleases without biting their fingers to other DPS class rolling higher..
Dammit Yoshida..
Well he isnt really competing with BOTH for the same loot. MNK will compete with only DRG for STR accessories but not ninja since he will use DEX acc's and he will compete with only NIN for armor but not DRG since he uses different armor (heavy low mag def armor). What makes even less sense is that Monk is now in gear competition with not only Ninja for no reason(They not even gonna need the same stats) but STILL LNC/DRG.. War/Pld : Need Fending Accs. + Same Armor
MNK/DRG: Need Slaying Accs.
MNK: Need Striking armor alone
DRG: Need Maiming armor alone
BRD: Need Aiming Armor + Accs Alone
((2.4))
War/Pld : Need Fending accs. + same armor
MNK/NIN: Need Striking 2.0-2.3 Armor,(as far as we know not saying this is 100% the situation)
MNK: Need 2.4 Armor alone
NIN: Need 2.4 Armor alone
MNK/DRG: Need Slaying Accs.
DRG: Need Maiming Armor alone
NIN/BRD: Need Aiming Accs.
BRD: Need Aiming Armor alone
What competition? and since when can War roll on slaying gear for kicks when you can click need?
Guys, all your maths are great and all, but the answer to why the ninja can wear monk gear is obvious; GLAMOUR.
The devs have said on multiple occasions that customizing the characters appearance is very important to them. Giving the ninja glamour options outside of there job and class in the way they partially achieve this.
the question is not why monk, it's more why give them dex as main stats, they aren't a ranged jobs, every video we have from this class show us a melee class... it's why change the basic rule of the game now?
actually i already know the answer: because they can't add a lot of class that need dex as ranged physical dps.
in FF jobs used in the past, most of them are melee... but that quite normal since it's generally medieval fantasy...
what scare more than all it's: in the futur, are we sure that they simply don't plan to add armor that will be for monk/ninja/bard simply because it's easier for them... loosing more choice for the glamour. i will not be surprise if it's not already the case with the futur armor with the new tomes.
Because it just makes sense. Dexterity affecting only ranged attacks didn't, I see it as a mistake they're trying to correct.
dex·ter·i·ty noun \dek-ˈster-ə-tē, -ˈste-rə-\
: the ability to use your hands skillfully
: the ability to easily move in a way that is graceful
: clever skill : the ability to think and act quickly and cleverly
If there is one class that fits that perfectly is Ninja. It would be a shame if dex wasn't their primary stat.
@edli: you miss the point, when you create a mmorpg you put rule for balance everything soo far in the game.
it can be people can't fly or people die when they touch water. anyway, one of the actual rule of the game is melee dps comes from STR and ranged physical dps comes from DEX. there, they decide to change this rule because they didn't notice before that the FF series have more melee class than ranged class.
anyway, i don't complain about that, but more how they did wait soo late for announce it, more bad, how bad it was announced. it's not something small that some like to make it look like.
before this, when you was looking a class, it was easy to guess which main stats it was. from there, every class they will add can be whatever they want. like i have said, Dark knight (that was heavily hinted) can perfectly be int based. they are all the time saying that they don't want to confuse player and... suddenly decide to do the inverse, i was not the only one totally confused by the announce of yesterday.
finally, in other game and reality dexterity do this, but like i have said before, when arr have come out they did decide rule for this world and it was different. here it's not because dexterity is more... better for ninja, it's only because they don't have a lot of class coming that will use this stats. other point, with your definition, why the monk is not dex based? because the only difference between ninja and monk is one use dagger, when other use fist weapon.
actually i will have even prefer they decide to modify dex totally and add monk to the list than what they have done.
And no rule is ever set in stone in a MMO, an ever changing game. 2.0 was the perfect example. I would rather they fix their past mistakes now for a game that may last for 7 more years then leave them untouched for the sake of whatever.
on this point i'm with you, it's just i find them choice too confusing, instead to change totally the dex they have done only half way. but maybe it will allows them to do stuff more interesting. but them announce was really bad in the way it was done.
2.0 was not a simple expansion it was a reset of the game indeed the rule change, you do this sort of change to an extension not a patch.
