if each of these wards is an actual physical server machine, then what happens a few years from now when its time to downgrade the server structure to remain profitable? When they are combining worlds to maintain a median population?

Also, what happens if you buy a house and then transfer worlds? so long house?

What I think would be smart for them to implement is a system that can pack up and store your house. Then be able to drop your house on any plot of similar size (with a possible fee for upgrading plot "quality"). The best reason to do this is when they implement the "must log in every 30 days" or lose your plot system, instead of just deleting your plot, house and all, they pack it up and store it for you. The plot is freed but your house is saved. Whenever you choose to reclaim the house, you can choose another plot of similar size to drop it back down on (again, possibly with some fees involved). It's also great for the eventual time when they'll need to start consolidating wards and or servers because either has become too sparse.

Doubling is what Yoshida himself said they're trying for in 2.4. It came from his stickied post:

(Basically, the number of wards available now will be doubled in Patch 2.4).

With our current schedule for stability checks, it’s going to be difficult to add this in time for the release of Patch 2.4, but both the server and housing teams are working as hard as they can to make it possible.
So yeah, this next big update (which apparently even by itself is "going to be difficult to add") is only for doubling the plots, i.e. going from 1% to 2% availablility. How worthwhile is it to save up for something that 98% of us won't be able to get no matter how much gil we have?

Because it isn't possible to have a plot for every single person that wants one, what is so hard to understand about that? it's like a residence in real life that only has 10 houses, but 200 people want to live there. It's just not going to happen. you come first you get it 1st.

All this whining is certainly becoming more annoying then it should be.

Because this game isn't called "Final F*cking Reality!" The rules of real life shouldn't apply here.

No, it's not possible to have a plot for every single person *that's implemented in a permanent always-running region like the FC housing wards.* That's why it's a stupid place to try to put individual housing. An individual house is something that should only exist when the player is there. Whenever they're logged out or in another area of the game it should close the instance and release that server space for other people. With that implementation, it's perfectly possible to give every single player their own house plot, because only a small percent of them would be active at any given time. (At most, it might require doing a bit of the server upgrades that they already need anyway.)

it's called common sense and limited resources, in real life there are limits, even in a video game limits apply. i guess you're not the only person who has trouble understanding that. or there are blind people, whichever.

I also guess some people fully understand how servers work to know that can be easily done.

But these limits are ones that SE choose to create by implementing a server-intensive design. If they don't have the servers for this type of implementation, then they shouldn't have used this type of implementation. There are plenty of other ways they could have implemented personal housing that would have made it available to everyone.
