It's cute that the handful of hardcore endgamers still playing think they're top of mind for Yoshida right now.

FFXIV needs to be in a state where they can generate revenue from it, if it is to have any future at all.

Most of an MMO's revenue comes from casual gamers.

Ergo, initial content may have some bonuses tucked in for the haijin (hidden bosses, etc.) but pretty much has to be tailored towards approachability so that the majority (the casuals) feel like they can actually set "worthwhile" (insofar as that term applies to an MMO) goals and attain them.

Given how little we really know about how the dungeons will be implemented, it's far too soon to say how a short lockout will impact for hardcore endgamers.

Once there is more variety of content, I would personally be in favor of longer lockouts and more rewards per run (see also: don't punish people with Salvage-esque drop rates), but given that these first two dungeons are basically a public beta for FFXIV instanced raids, I am not that worried yet.

Thus my example why easy MMOs such as WoW are on top. It's painfully clear what the team wants done with this game, however as the other thread title stated awhile back that I didn't initially agree with given the undertone of "I'm better than you" - Casual gamers think they're the most entitled to everything these days, and want the game designed for them.

While they are making content, that's a given:

Once there is more variety of content
There will be a variety of content designed for casual play, especially since you opened your post with:

So you pretty much realize this game is basically going to be nothing but a casual playground, which is fine for those who like it, but will drive away another portion of their playerbase when your goal is to try to get as many players as possible and both hardcore and casual gamers exist in the MMO world.

Even in the wildest of scenarios this doesn't make a sliver of sense.

GW2 is the only new gen MMO that promotes being casual and hardcore friendly and actually have something to show for it. Makes perfect sense.

Oh, is that what the (PR) developers said? How cute.

Regardless, it doesn't make a sliver of sense considering their subscription model (or the lack of it).

On top of being impossible to accomplish.

    "BUT THEY SAID IT IS"

All MMOs need to be designed around everyone. Not casuals alone. Not hardcores alone. A mix for everyone.
Then arises the question "how?" And everything falls apart.

But idealism is not concerned about petty details such as reality, so keep on believin'!

I realize that their first push is to have enough stuff for people in general (discounting the small portion of players who play 8 hours a day) that they can justify charging a monthly fee.

I believe that more content will be added later to cater to more "hardcore" players, and that SE is willing to sacrifice them for the time being because they need something profitable more than they need a few rabid gamers.

People ragequit MMOs all the time and say they'll never go back. Many of those people do go back. So realistically, whatever they say aside, SE has a second window to re-capture haijins a few months down the road, provided they implement good content, and provided there's nothing else out that's better than sliced bread (will just have to wait an see).

I was a pretty hardcore FFXI player for a long time, now I'm out of school, married, and working 50+ hour weeks. I still want to be able to attempt challenging content with a small group of good players on my own terms, but I don't want to have to schedule my life around when I can do things in a game. So the more they make it hard to get the phattest loot by requiring more strategy, teamwork, coordination, and competence, rather than via long lockouts, awful droprates, or the need to zerg with numbers, the better.

In theory that sounds great and i share your situation irl wise, but im yet to see team-play/strategy = rewards in here ever (in fact , the other way around, promotes bad gameplay and mechanics,) so i dont see how this dungeons will be any different than anything we have been given up to this day.Yes , sorry i dont belive next few patches will be the next decent of god on earth, but ill give it a shoot and if it have improved as it should 1 year after release, ill dig.

Also , i can guarantee i wont come back to this game if i have to pay for it unless is the next best thin since butterjelly.
