I've skimmed these threads and not seen this mentioned anywhere...but there's a LOT of posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating something known/debunked here. The whole "plumage will change" message does not seem to be random at all. It's just a matter of waiting 1 real time minute before feeding them the next fruit. When I just shoveled the fruit into my chocobo as fast as I could, I never got any message past the initial one until 1 minute had passed. So far, I've been waiting at least 1 minute and have yet to not see the message pop each time I feed a fruit. Again, this seems so obvious I imagine it's already been played around with, but if not, there it is.

I've waited and the "feathers" message didn't pop. I still think it's RNG.

Just an FYI. From my experience waiting between fruit does absolutely nothing. I've waited 5-8min between fruit and did not see it after. I have waited 2 1/2 hours and didn't see it until the 5th fruit after.
