I'm also experimenting to reach a Soot Black one.

Here is what i got so far:

Desert Yellow --> 10 Berries (8 New Feather Messages) --> Goobue Grey

With this i could conclude that each fruit have a main increase, and it indeed does affect the other 2 values, positively or negatively by around 50% of the main increase/decrease.

Now, going from the assumption these are the fruit values are the ones proposed:

    Apple +R -G -B
    Pear -R +G -B
    Berries -R -G +B

    Plum -R +G +B
    Valfruit +R -G +B
    Pineapple +R +G -B

I decided to feed him even numbers of Berries, Pears and Apples, to try to keep the color balance in the scale, while getting a darker shade of grey, so i went with:

Goobue Grey --> 2 Berries --> 2 Pears --> 2 Apples (got the new feather message exactly on the last one) --> (???)

1 and a half hour left and I'll be able to check the results. If, as predicted, the next color goes as Slate Grey, then i'm positive it's possible to get Soot Black within 2 more feedings (even one, but i wanna still go down to charcoal grey first, to make sure it's working properly).

Resulted in Shale Brown, which as said by our lala friend earlier is probably due to only the Apples having the "new Feather" effect.

Now proceeding to try again. trying to rebalance the RGB ratios while lowering the overal value again:

    Shale Brown --> 5 Berries (4 "new feathers") --> 3 Pears ( 3 "new feathers") --> 1 Apple (1 "new feather") --> (???)

Will post the results again as soon as he's done.

    ###SOOT BLACK CHOCOBO EXPERIMENT###

Alright, I'm back to report my experiences with dyeing yesterday.

I'm pretty happy overall, and despite the original failure with the Shale Brown result, i managed to get back on track and right now, I'm almost sure I'll get to Soot Black within the next 6 hours, given i've been getting a steady pattern of results.

    So, let's get to Experiments:

    #1--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Original Color: Shale Brown

    Feeding: 5 Berries (4 feather procs) + 3 Pears (3 feather procs) + 1 Apple (1 feather proc)

    Result: Lavender Purple

Reasoning: As discussed in the previous post, i only got one feather proc in my last feeding, which caused some problems with the color balance and raised red above the other colors, instead of decreasing them evenly, and the result was SHALE BROWN. In this feeding i tried to balance back the Red Green and Blue values, and so, i used a heavier dose of berries and Pears. The result was partially successful, but now i needed to even also the green values.

    #2--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    #3--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Original Color: Lavender Purple

Feeding: 3 Pears (1 feather proc)

    Result: Goobue Grey

Reasoning: Going back from previous testing, I now had a slightly higher red and blue values, and so,used more pears to tip back the balance hoping to return to the grey color scheme. This time i was 100% successful, and managed to get back to the goobue grey, and so proceed with experimenting.

    #4--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Original Color: Goobue Grey

    Feeding: 5 Berries (5 feather procs) + 5 Pears (5 feather procs) + 5 Apples (5 feather procs)

    Result: Slate Grey

Reasoning: With this experiment going forward, i tried to see if was possible to descend on the grey scale while maintaining the color balance by feeding even amounts of berries/pears/apples. As theorized, I got a slightly darker shade of grey (Slate).

    #5--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Original Color: Slate Grey

    Feeding: 5 Berries (5 feather procs) + 5 Pears (5 feather procs) + 5 Apples (5 feather procs)

    Result: Charcoal Grey

Reasoning: I wanted to further test that a balanced feeding would keep dropping the Chocobo's shade of grey closer to Soot Black, and so i used the same amount of fruits i had in the earlier experiment. Result went 100% correct as expected, and now really close to my objective, which is Soot Black.

    #6--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Original Color: Charcoal Grey

    Feeding: 5 Berries (5 feather procs) + 5 Pears (5 feather procs) + 5 Apples (5 feather procs)

    Result: ????? (Soot Black?)

Now with my previous experiments proving it's possible to go down evenly, and that the difference in RGB value from Charcoal Grey to Soot Black is almost the same to that of Slate Grey to Charcoal Grey and Goobue Grey to Slate Grey, I am confident that in the next 6 hours my chocobo is finally going to turn Soot Black.

I'll be posting results later, in the afternoon.
