SE's most difinitive statement yet on parsers

I don't like the idea of parsers. I don't like the idea of ANY third party tools. Because they can and will be abused. People will say they won't, or say it's 'limited' or 'extreme' cases. But at the end of the day that's exactly what it boils down to be. Parsers are a judgement tool, nothing more. If you use the judgement to improve yourself, then you don't need the tool because you can eyeball it (pen & paper / excel etc etc) without having to rely on something else to do the work for you. If you use it on others then all are you doing is looking for flaws in people, and with the quality of the community we have here (hey look, hunts are a GREAT example of THAT....) it will end up in the crappiest place possible.

Not to mention the fact of "Oh, well I have this parser installed, I might as well use mod X or Y as well to make things easier." which just results further and further into cheating mindset because "oh it's not effecting others."

I will firmly hate 3rd Party Tools.


And before anyone says 'stop being bad'. I was apparently parsed and told how I did by a bard in DR the other day and was complimented. I felt rather uncomfortable with that information and warned them not to do it again, especially with me because I will report for that kind of stuff.

Gotta ask, whats wrong with judging others? its up to the playerbase by our own choice to help those struggling or not, not forced upon against good players will.
I find your attitude on the matter pretty bad and bad for the community, trying to force your own ideals onto others, your type of players are the bane of this community.

if you use a more expedient method that is against the Terms of Service then yes, it's technically cheating.

I find your attitude on the matter pretty bad and bad for the community, trying to force your own ideals onto others, your type of players are the bane of this community.

The Terms of Service, which we all signed when we started playing the game firmly state the use of 3rd Party Tools is against the rules and is a bannable offense. Once they change this for add ons, the Terms will change and I will most likely have to re-consider things and see how it goes at that time. But for now it's not permitted regardless of your stance or mine.

If the group finds a person a problem in the group on said encounter, they have the right to discuss the issue and if they find removing such person, its their right, you cant say they arent allowed to have a say in the matter, what you are asking for is making them do things against their will and forced, which is bad.

This is just your issues that hasnt happened in my years of mmo gaming, think I can say rightly many others havent seen this either, maybe its the fault of the person that caused people to have a go at them, theres always 2 sides to everything.

It has happened to me personally on FFXI. It's the sole reason I hate 3rd party tools with a passion.

How is it a freedom of choice when the playerbase is wanting a tool they can use to push players out of content unless they are high-end raider level of play?



Not everyone is BlueGartr tier of play, using them as the measuring stick is what the community tends to do. When people parse others they judge not based on the encounter as a group, but based on what the 'expected DPS should be'. That 'expected' is set by the raiding community, with BG at the top. Now, how is anyone going to improve if people are going to use parsers to keep them OUT of content rather than using them to help improve them FOR it?
