My understanding was that people didn't re-buy Chrono Trigger enough for SE to believe making a sequel was worthwhile.

I want a Mana game first.
And not like those terrible reboot attempts from 2 generations ago where yall just took some cheap mechanics and slapped on a coat of Mana paint.
Oh, and side note. Why the hell is Square refusing to release more Dragon Quest here? It's pretty popular as far as JRPGs in the west go and Nintendo has offered to do localization.

now I finally remember where I know it from, true it looks a bit different than in CT, spekkios ipso facto minimo magicos weakest form, but still
and he has a similar rude attitude as that weird gremling thing describing the world of magus and shala.

this is not directly false but also not quite rightThey made a sequel of ChronoTrigger. It's name is ChronoCross it is the direct sequel to the ChronoTrigger game. The problem is that it didn't do very well.
Chrono Cross is a direct sequel to Radical Dreamers, which was a Text Adventure which explains Kidd's past. I tried to play it, but my japanese wasn't good enough to understand a text adventure like that back than.
Chrono Cross has elements from Chrono Trigger, sadly my memory card died shortly after I met Chrono Lucca and Marle in CC so I cant say much more about it. And yes Glenn too is in this game (Kaeru/Frog from CT) but I am not sure how they relate D:
I am not sure, but isn't there somewhere an easter egg hidden? I think I found something during 2.0 (or 1.x?) which made me go "aaaaah so cool"

Er, the Final Boss of Chrono Cross is actually Lavos....this is not directly false but also not quite right

And Diabolos stole Lavos' theme song! <_< >_>
The Glenn in CC is a different Glenn than CT. He's just an homage/reference really. So is Turnip. Though Glenn's a *beast* when he can dual wield.Chrono Cross has elements from Chrono Trigger, sadly my memory card died shortly after I met Chrono Lucca and Marle in CC so I cant say much more about it. Yeah, this. ^
Chrono Cross didn't sit well with me for a number of reasons, but the biggest was that it didn't have the same feel at all as Chrono Trigger did. It felt like a totally different game, but with trappings and plot fragments from Chrono Trigger slapped on here and there. When I learned that it was a continuation of a totally different game, it all made sense: It wasn't Chrono Trigger 2, it was Radical Dreamers 2, with CT bits added on to try to capture some of the huge fanbase CT had.
So, we wound up with a much more serious and less whimsical game. Characters and settings from the first game were referenced, and coldly eliminated one way or another, such as the brutally off-hand way it was mentioned that the kingdom of Guardia was conquered and destroyed, Lucca's implied murder, and Robo's on-screen "death". Instead of an ensemble cast, we had dozens of ridiculously pointless characters to play as, with only three, possibly four of them getting any character development to speak of. None of the cool battle mechanics from the first game made it into the second, with the exceptions of a bare handful of "combo techs" that were clearly added as an afterthought.
As a stand-alone game, Chrono Cross was not bad - maybe even good. I won't deny that I loved playing through it; the music was great, and the storyline was interesting. Whenever it tried to tie in to Chrono Trigger, though, I cringed; as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it was a cold-blooded cash-grab and a slap in the face to fans of the original game.

I enjoyed playing Chrono Cross the first time through, it had an interesting skill system that I remember really liking for some reason. There were a few things I didn't like about Chrono Cross though; With as many characters as there were available in that game... they had like 1 Triple tech, maybe 2, but I only remember there being 1. The second problem was with the story itself, when you finally do meet ghost Chrono, Marle, and Lucca they essentially reveal to you that because of the main character everything they did didn't matter. That's what really put the sour taste in my mouth.
(Didn't check the source but..) Not sure if serious...My understanding was that people didn't re-buy Chrono Trigger enough for SE to believe making a sequel was worthwhile.

There is quite literally 2-3 other ports of Chrono Trigger out there and I own 2 of them myself, plus the original SNES version. One of them was Final Fantasy Chronicles, and then I also have the Nintendo DS version of the game as well. Pretty sure there was also another Playstation version besides what was on FF Chronicles.
Which is part of the reason why you don't get high sales for a game players that love it already own like 2-3 copies of the game. At a point, you simply wonder why do I need ANOTHER copy of the same thing? This is why we need something new.
For a game they kept on porting for new/other systems, you'd think they'd go ahead and do more with it.
