No wrong intended, but are we reading the same thread? I see a few posts like mine and alot of other posts going on about how balls-to-the-wall is the only way to DD. It's not and while Yoshida is trying to get it through to people, he's doing so in a very ironic way.
So basically what people are saying is to learn to maximise your damage output in order to clear content (and it's all serious business with people parsing and being judgemental on your rotations and performance), and then once you get High Allagan be forced to change your playstyle, insert massive pauses between skills or just unlearn what made you effective and play like a total derp. So for someone undergeared going into primals or coil they should be very wary of and avoid geared players. Absurd, SE needs to reward high DPS not punish. Control within reason but stand around doing nothing in Levi, etc. is going too far.
As you get more geared more of your dps goes afk during 6-8 until only the tank is dpsing
Aside from the forced enrage in Ifrit Ex (I think Levi Ex has been ninja fixed cause I haven't seen it in a while despite pushing him really low), your other examples don't really hold too much water. Instead of complaining about high DPS making things harder, adjust your strat to account for the high DPS or throttle your DPS so you can abuse phase changes and get even more DPS uptime. Blowing conflag up too fast so the fireball doesn't get fed? Hit Twin some instead of the conflag or just ignore feeding altogether.
Despite that, I don't really see too much of an issue with higher DPS making things harder. It means you're burning through things faster forcing mechanics to cascade... but you're still killing faster.
SE actually does not approve of the parsers althought they do not out right ban it. They also do not approve of people being all judgmental. And to date the bonus reward on the duty finder have all been for tanks or healers. So SE is not looking to reward the DPS or high DPS. I am sure all the high DPS player wishes for rewards, but I believe, not that I know what SE is thinking, that it is safe to say rewarding high DPS is no where close to the vision SE has. Who gets the new mounts again? Tanks.

I don't know about 'unlearning' anything about 'maximized potential' because I never started from that background. I learned to DD in XI and that game is alot harsher to balls-to-the-wall play so I never learned to play my DDs that way. It's helped me alot in this game in being able to passively manage my damage output and thanks to that I rarely have to kite a mob back to the tank. And when that does happen I apologize because it was clearly my fault it happened. I'm honestly flabbergasted when I get people telling me how to play my role then draw aggro every chance THEY get. I've seen it happen so many times...
Better DPS doesn't actually cause wipes though if you are expecting it.
Pushing phases in Levi ex changes the fight, yes, but it's easily dealt with and makes the fight faster.
High dps in turn 6 just makes the fight a lot shorter... nothing changes there.
In turn 7, depending on when you're pushing the phases, Renaud will spawn at different times in Melusine's voice rotation. If you're relying on Renaud coming at the perfect time, then you may find yourself halting dps at 80%, 60%, and 30%. If not, you might just be doing the 4-stack Renaud method, or you could be like my group and just have two Renaud's up at all times and never stop dps.
In turn 8 pushing phases means you have to do the towers a little differently than if you hadn't pushed.
In turn 9, having high dps is never anything but beneficial to the party: such as getting only 4 meteors in phase 1, or not seeing the third set of divebombs in the final phase.
To clarify on reward I don't mean an actual reward, I mean faster dungeon clears with less hassle.SE actually does not approve of the parsers althought they do not out right ban it. They also do not approve of people being all judgmental. And to date the bonus reward on the duty finder have all been for tanks or healers. So SE is not looking to reward the DPS or high DPS. FAR too many DPS players think that their job is to do so much damage that they shift phases when their group isn't ready, pull off their tank, and attack anything and everything despite how the enemies are marked.
The tank doesn't get to decide to only tank one of the three enemies just because it's far easier for him to continue living with only one beating on him.
The healer doesn't get to ignore the rest of the group just because it's easier for them to focus on the tank.
Dps doesn't get to just spam as much damage as possible because that's the easiest(and most epeen-flexing) way to play.
Everyone is supposed to work together and that includes the dps.
This is about boss fights not your df'ed dungeon with people watching Netflix with a macro on to do their role.
And in most cases pushing phases help the party take less damage, until Ifrit and beyond where it forces an early enrage
