It seems that any debate about whether Auto Attack will cater to the lazy or somehow ruin strategic elements in the game seem moot until they actually implement it. And even then they've announced that the update after next will further expand and define the action algorithms inherent in having an Auto Attack system.

The notion that auto attack caters to rmt seems the most silly to me, since by and large all the effective RMT bots serve their purposes perfectly well, and adding auto attack means the rmt botters will need to recalculate their own algorithms which if anything will slow them down while they make programs for the new system.

The one post that makes the most sense in either direction is that now during fights we have the opportunity to chat.

Everything else is pointless conjecture until the system is actually implemented. Then the debate can ensue based on actual user feedback.
No, it's not conjecture. Many players like myself have played a half dozen or more AA-based combat systems in MMORPGs and would honestly prefer not to have that nonsense dragging down what could have been a progressive battle system for the genre. The base that the game launched with was fine. It didn't need to be rebuilt, it needed to be completed and streamlined. One thing is for certain: if the system they hand us is a carbon copy of FFXI's combat (which was the #1 reason why I didn't stick with the game; dear god, was it slow and boring), I'll be dropping it like a bad habit.
