In my opinion, whatever it is you do in life and or in a game, having to work for and achieve something makes it mean more to you. That applies to jobs, money, women, practically anything.

Being given something automatically reduces your perceived value of it.

If traveling in Eorzea requires no work, we will unawarely miss out on the beauty of it because we can experience it anytime we choose. It isn't something we have to work for. Thus, creating a game where we aren't amazed by anything due to it's easy accessibility. Everyone wants a challenge. Making aetherytes the only avenue for teleporting doesn't necessarily create a challenge but it places, albeit a small one, work towards our simple traveling goal.

Therefore once we achieve it, we appreciate it more.

Unrestrictive teleportation in Eorzea is wiping what little appreciation there is to be had in this game.

Give it life. Allow us to be grateful by granting us the ability to work for our goals. Whether they are small or grand.

you can work for it all you want. i have ran from limsa to coerthas enough times i have see what is between them. i do not need to have to run through there every time i want to go there.

that's like some people love to drive a car on vacation to go cross country to see all the stuff on the trip. after a few drives to the same place you say ok i have seen it and next time i am just going to ride the plane.

Yes, but first you had to go to the airport.
Next, you were waiting (while maybe enjoying the view of your aerial trip if I might add?) during the flight.
Then you arrived in your destination, gathered your belongings and traveled to your hotel.
Once you arrived you rejoiced and were delighted about everything because of the new scenery and the work/wait it took to get there.

All I'm saying is when you create some sort of work ethic to accomplish a goal, the feeling is rewarding when you do it.

which brings me back to my original point. once the other means of transportation are put in place there will be an argument for that, but not at this point.

you know things like the actual airport for the airship or stables for the chocobo. at this point you can walk if you wish to do so which is what i mostly do, but for those that are limited on time them being able to port where they need to go fast does nothing to hurt your game.

if you want to walk to the node to port so it feels right to you or you want to walk everywhere that is personal preference.

edit: your comparison also fails as to the point after you have been to the same place multiple times and been in the same airport multiple times it is no longer new or exciting. after a few times going somewhere it becomes a hassle not fun. if you have been on a plane much and in an airport you know people are not there for fun of the flight. they are there for the final destination.

Also, once alternate transportation modes are put into effect, maybe teleporting can be dummed down completely, as far as to only allow returns and not teleportation, or greatly increase the cost of teleportation.

Bad thing is, everyone is already far too spoiled by the teleportation system XIV has. If it were never like this in the first place, I am sure people would have adapted. We just have to be prepared to make the transition into a system that would have been a better and more MMOish start.

Because it is bad that they did it like this in the first place. Who is really going to use chocobos and airships if teleporting doesn't change? you'd just be able to teleport from Ishagard to wherever there is a node, wherever to wherever there is a node. The new modes of transportation will hardly get used by anyone who doesn't do a lot of non-instant travel anyways.

So, you defend the OP's suggestion against players who are arguing that there should be no more restrictions and verbalizing their fears of time sinks and FURTHER restrictions only to ultimately suggest something you just defended wasn't being suggested. ORZ!

Yes I am defending the op's suggestion that teleporting should be changed...

Why even cry for chocobos and airships and all these modes of transportation if there wont even be a reason to use them?

I still think my idea of removeing a bunch of aethecytes per area is better than the OP's as well.

Yes, which is why you cannot teleport to a camp unless you made the trip there yourself. Once you do that and you take in all of the copy pasta'ed terrain, you can enjoy the luxury of using this magical ability to teleport as it's a fantasy game.

(Not directed at you Darkstar) I don't know why there are so many real world examples being used to justify anything. Since we are, I'd suggest protesting the City-State's government to open the air ship docks and allow us to ride chocobos. As citizens of Eorzea, we pay enough taxes in the wards to open public transportation and fund them. Give me a break.

lol, I'm using real world analogies because it's something everyone can relate with.
