The worst and the most disgusting idea you could ever have to upgrade the Relic Weapon.
This is an involution of the game play because for the first step of the Relic you have to challenge yourself with the primals and Titan and now? Spend a countless hours grinding fates!! I don't want to spend my money to do something boring and annoying during my free time. No way!!!

People are mad because this is the worst possible way to implement a grind in an MMO.

No one minds a grind in an MMO. But when you throw in an RNG then you'll get people angry.

I grinded FATEs in Central Thanalan for 4 hours tonight and didn't get the Atma. Meanwhile I watched people drop into the party, do 2 FATEs, get their Atmas, and leave.

thuo i find this a bad game design, i think it would be tolerated if there was a better sense of progression.
My main issue is that my previous fate has nothing to do with my next fate (chance of drop).
Statistic base, it has, if we have large numbers (of fates) but i don't think people want large numbers of fate so they could satisfy the statistic and rng gods...

would recommend a buff that increases the chance of drop for every fate in that area (0.3-0.5% per fate)

people said this is a long term goal. how so when some of us get it in a few hours while others get zilch after 200 fates? seems pretty unfair. long term goal only for some. others get a free pass

And not having those kind of grinds did drive ppl allready away from FFXIV and now is catering to those, which were about to quit if they don't have any timesinks soon.

You need to realize that it goes both ways. The unweathered Weapons is an Alternative way to get a strong weapon. If people do not like to grind, go get those.. or Levi Ex Weapons or even High Allagan. Or is there something wrong with those weapons? Like you have to do something to get them, right?

And even if I do a hundred fates in a row, I'm no closer to my goal, because I still have the exact same chance of getting an atma as I did in the very first fate I did. I don't care if FF11 had RNG grinds out the ass, that doesn't make it right. And no, I'm not asking for easy relics. Make it as time-consuming as you want, I don't give a shit. But its extremely demotivating when I've seen people get 4 or 5 atmas in an hour or so, while someone in my FC grinded fates for almost 9 hours straight and got 0. Why was 1 hour enough work for them, but not him? Why should the content be easier for them?
1k fates? I would dislike something like that, I just hit my 1k mark and have been playing since release. As I said before this type of progression isn't for everyone and SE gave us choices. Don't damn a method just because you don't like it esp when we now have options on the route we go about obtaining a weapon.

Was thinking about it more and what could be done from my original post. They could have taken it farther grind out 100 fates in each zone to collect the energy needed, procure new 1 and/or 2 star unique untradeable mats through all lvl 50 crafts and you finally craft the atma its self as a 3 star alchemy item. Of course each atma unique untradeable unsellable. so much more could be done to make this a true lengthy grind without this RNG they added.

You must be an alchemist lol. There is nothing wrong with rng in mmos, and this quest. There is apparently a new breed of player that needs a tangible reward for every time they play...even if it's a virtual number counter. I don't get it. I say leave this quest alone. I bet most of your were even in the wrong zones...I know I saw about 15 doing that last night.

Pretty much. Can you imagine D2 without RNG? Its the thrill of getting that super rare items that kept people playing that game for more than 10 years. Same for older mmos like RO, rose, maple and even ffXI. It was Wow that started the whole quest tracker and progress log thing that seriously made the genre feel like a grind. Kill 10 of this, kill 10 of that, collect reward, profit. For me, having a progress tracker and knowing how much more I have to do to complete my objective feels awfully like a job to me. At least for rng, you never know whats going to happen.

And btw, the grandfather of rpg is the D&D system, which again was used in highly popular games like Baldur's gate 1/2 and Neverwinter Night 1/2. If you don't think even a modicum of rng should exist in ffxiv, then I question why you are playing an MMORPG.
